Self Explanatory. Who was the best power trio ever?
I say Cream. Eric Clapton is a guitar god, Ginger Baker was great, listen to Toad from wheels of fire. That all the proof I needed. And Jack Bruce could sing, play very good bass (IMO 3rd Best Bassist) and write there hits. After them Rush.

I would place Cream very high however my top 5 would go:
1. ELP
2. SRV And Double Trouble
3. Cream
4. Rush
5. Genesis

Bratmobile, the Melvins and Jawbreaker come to mind. I don't much go for the blues-rock power trio.

Ive heard of them, but honestly could not name one song by them. Im mostly in to the mainstream grunge. Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam especially.

This is one of those 'get the pills to calm down' situations. Oh, the rants I've had about Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam make me bite carpets.

When I think "power trio" the immediate mental image is Rush.

Have Electric Wizard not used four members on their past few records? I thought it was only the first that had three.

Cream springs to mind immediately, followed by the Melvins and Motorhead. I feel Blue Cheer are also worth mentioning

Stray Cats, The Jam, Nirvana, The Police, ZZ Top, Portishead, Grand Funk Railroad, Big Black, Sublime, Rush, Green Day, Dinosaur Jr, Motörhead, and Hüsker Dü.
This is all just off the top of my head, though.

Most Succesfull power trios were
Genesis: (Collins, Banks, Rutherford)
The Police: (Sting, Summers, Copeland)
Rush: (Lee, Lifeson, Peart)
The Best has to be Genesis, the have influenced a lot of bands and among these 3 they have one of the best prog rock song ever (Mama)

Cream is so creamy dreamy
no but really, cream is fantastic. Jack Bruce kinda scares me...the bass sounds so fantastic on their albums. Ginger Baker=haus with Toad and Clapton's Clapton.

First four records were a power trio. Then two of the members left and Jus Oborn recreated the band by adding three more people alongside him. The last two albums have had four members.
I consider those first four albums to be the true Electric Wizard, though. The recent stuff, while totally ****ing awesome, isn't quite as good as the band that recorded "Return Trip".

Cool, I wasn't sure there. My personal favourite album is still Dopethrone, not sure on the personnel on that recording.

1. Skinny Puppy
2. Sleater Kinney
3. The Police
4. Meat Puppets
5. fIREHOSE
I'm including Skinny Puppy because while their power trio configuration was drums, keyboards, vocals, other people are using genesis. :) I have a hard time lumping them in as a power trio because a. They used to have 5 (and were better) and b. They never played as a 3 piece live, they always had a guitarist live.

I have been trying to find some of 3's work for a long time now and have been completely unable XD Any tips on where I can find it? I should note that I'm looking for free internets first. Because I don't like to drop money on an album for a band I've never heard of.

It took me a really long time to find their first albums; but Wake Pig and The End Is Begun were fairly easy to find (for me on soulseek, but torrents shouldn't be hard); considering they are on a larger label now, it shouldn't be impossible either.
