Just a note for those interested, there are indeed a few shops selling Rock Band around Montreal but just like eBay, expect to pay more for them. The bundles I saw were selling for 250$.

$250? That's bull. I could understand when our dollar was worth 65 cents USD, but not now. How can a few shops sell a game that's not officially available? Shady.

Damn so Quebec screws us over with the instruction manuals and they get first dibs on the bundles? Lame.

Joking.

It's payback you know? Ever noticed that any type of contest always excludes Quebec? ;)

Mex, it's just like eBay. Rock Band is a rare good in Canada right now so they're overpricing it for people who desperately want it. They probably drove to the U.S. bought a few bundles an are actually reselling them instead of selling them.

I don't know about sale laws though. I'm wondering if it's legal or not to sell this in shop at that price.

Depends on what kind of store it is. EB or any other major retailer wouldn't be able to get away with that. Some small stores break release dates all the time. I go to a place in Downtown Toronto that breaks them all the time. They were even trying to get a shipment of bundles from the US but it didn't work out.

Ahh...got it, thanks J-Rock and foolosophy. Hey by the way foolosophy, I live in T.O. as well, would you mind telling me which store downtown you go to? PM me if you don't want to post public.

given the inconvenience to the stores to go get bundles from the U.S., and probably pay duty on them, $250's actually a pretty fair price. I'd still wait for official release though.

250 isn't too bad... I got a friend to buy mine in portland (no tax), so 170$, plus shipping (50$ from fedex), get hit with 6% gst at the border (10$), so 230$... plus some paypal fees for sending money to him, ended up costing me 245$ in the end. SO 250 isn't bad.

Well, Assassin's Creed was made in Montreal and it reached the US stores before the Quebec stores, and the launch party was in Ontario. But Uncharted, developped in the US, got released in Montreal a week before the release date. It's all fair! :P

I'll still wait for the official release though. That way I'll save 80$ and hopefully, the Les Paul will be patched in by then.

"Good news everyone!" [/Professor Farnsworth] (and for those that don't watch Futurama when he says good news it's actually bad)

In Wal-Mart today there was a lovely sign up saying....

"Rock Band will not be available for these systems:

Untill late December [I]or January"

That could be only Walmart. I never go there. Best Buy or Future Shop might get some copies. I'll ask next time I pass by.

Late december could actually mean the actual release date too since it's the 18th or something aournd this.

Yeah, I would call the 18th late December, but I do doubt that Wal Mart will be stocking it early. They either have to get a ton of it, or they wait. They don't seem to like dealing in small quantities of 5 or so copies for some reason. But my local EB does say they are expecting at least 10-15 bundles for each system. They are probably full of crap but I have never had an issue with pre-orders there. Fingers crossed for the 18th for my bundle.

If someone wants to pay $250 for a game that will cost $169.99 plus GST and PST (if applicable) then they can go right ahead. IMO that's a waste of money and I'm not so impatient that I'll spend that extra money JUST to have the game 1 month early. But don't get me wrong I am impatient and I'm going nuts counting down the days until I can play RB. Plus if any of your equipment breaks you're screwed until it's released here anyways.

I'm not expecting very many copies to show up in stores in Canada, not like in the US where there were stacks of RB at some retailers. Anyone that doesn't have a preorder will most likely have to camp out to get a hold of this game before Christmas.

I understand what your saying, that is why I took my strategy of buying a standalone copy for the 360 I could use with my existing guitars and a usb mike until I got my bundle. A word of caution, see my post from today about the post office. Things don't always work the way you plan.

One way or another, I figure I will have a stand alone copy to sell when the bundle comes in so it is all good. I get to play the set list for now, and then can play the drums with some knowledge of the set list when I get the bundle. As long as I get some cooperation with Canada Post;)

I hope it's just Wal-Mart. More concerned about the January bit than late December.

"More good news everyone!"

PSN DLC still cost $1 more.

When did most people put in their pre-orders? Do you think there's any point in getting a pre-order this late?

Was the 250$ including taxes or not? If so, then it shouldn't be that far off. I don't know how much it will be in Canada, but it will surely be 10$ more. Some stores, like Best Buy, match US prices, but many stores still sell at Canadian's price, which were 10$ more for a regular game. For Rock Band, it could become 20$ more. 190 + 15% will cost us about 220$...

I'm not sure since I'm not the one who got the confirmed this (a friend of mine saw it for sale and played it in a southshore store) but I don't think it was tax included. Although, are there any taxes when you're reselling an item bought in the U.S.?

If it's officially sold in a store, yes. Many games from the US or Japan, it's pretty much the same even if it doesn't come from the publishers directly.

I pre-ordered right at the end of October. And yeah, it is probably worth it: what do you have to lose? Pre-ordering is not an exact science - demand varies widely from store to store and they sometimes get very odd allocations (five copies at a huge store in downtown, twenty at a tiny one out in the burbs). So I'd say go ahead and do it, maybe you'll get lucky.

Yeah I'll try too. Reason I didnt do it yet (besides all the PS3 issues) is because the only place I know that takes pre-order is like a 45 minutes drive. I waited to have something else to do near there before making the trip.

All the stores here say $169 but no where to pre-order really, only the local one wich isn't sure if they can get it before the mail service stops for Xmas break or whatever it is that they do there.

So I phoned up my local EB Games and the guy on the phone said that Rock Band in Canada might be cancelled completely.

Now I obviously don't believe that, but what would have given that guy the idea that it won't be released up here at all?

Because he is probably tired of being asked 20 times a day from various people when its coming out? No Chance in hell that it is being cancelled. Thats like walking away from money, not going to happen.

True, especially when it's exactly the same version as the US. It's not like they have to change some things like for Europe, they just ship the same version.

I would tell his manager. Someone like that doesn't deserve to work in customer service.

I bought my copy last week from a videostore north of montreal and they were selling it 239$ plus taxes and the stand alone game 69$ plus taxes. Ive been playing it like crazy since i got it and yes it was 50$ more but it was worth the money instead of waiting another 3 weeks and their was always the possibility that I wouldnt be able to find a copy. Also I bought it legally here in Canada and I have the receipt to prove it so if their is any breakage than im pretty safe compared to ebay buyers.

Same here, except it was $600, and I didn't walk away with it...

I got mine off Kijiji...got a great deal on everything minus the new guitar. The guy wanted to sell it seperately for more money, and I had no problem with that considering how many issues there seems to be. Score!!!

I've got the Xplorer and Les Paul from Guitar Hero so all the instruments are covered. Rocked all weekend long, and loved it!
