View Full Version : Notes "stutter" when scrolling in...? Callibrating issue..?

So...we were working fine on the old tv (despite a broken downstrum and annoying ping on the yellow pad)... but nooo, we had to update to the new big screen LCD screen that arrived today.

Now of course, for the life of me, i can't get the callibration right...but i'm still hopeful i'll eventually find the right callibration.

Here's the question... while the note are scrolling down, we will hit weird sections when the scrolling notes will "stutter" slightly...instead of scrolling down smoothly. It seems to be when lots of notes are on the screen. (that might be our imagination)...

Is this problem connect to the callibration... or somthing differnent?
Any tips would be helpful.

What brand/model tv? How is it connected to the PS3? Is it just on faster songs or all songs? Stuttering is most likely not a calibration issue.

I've seen this problem online. Are you seeing it locally? This shouldn't be caused by calibration, but could possibly (though not likely) caused by your TV or using an interlaced video format. How far does each stutter go? Is it consistent?

sorry... should have posted more info...

I am playing on an xbox 360.
The tv is an LCD Sony Bravia model xdl-a6xbr5
The XBOX is connected thru a Yamaha receiver.

We are connected to xbox live but are playing locally.

A quick test this morning... i couldn't seem to get it to happen in Practice Mode.
But it WOULD happen in Solo quickplay. It seems to happen "regularly"...and on all songs (that i've tried so far).
I played the intro to the same song over and over (Epic, in this case) and it would always stutter in the same spots: Twice in the intro (with a couple note break inbetween the two stutter moments), then again in the middle of the first verse, and again thru the first half of the chorus. This seemed to happen in the same spots everytime i played the song.
The length of the stutter, or the time between stutters did not seem consistent (as in...there were shorter stutter moment and longer stutter moments.... )

Well crap, that sounds like a loading issue :(

Good thing is, this should be fixable in a patch. Try noting exactly where the stutter happens, so HMX can figure out how to fix it.

A loading issue? oy vey.
Would exchanging it for another disk help? (since you are suggesting waiting for a patch, than i assume not).

Its happening in every song...every 2 to 15 seconds or so.... i certainly hope they don't need ME sitting there with a stopwatch documenting the 50-or-so times it happens in all 74-or-so songs. ;-p (but seriously...i'd doubt they'd be fixing this on an "case by case" basis. ("Hey, Did someone fix 4 seconds in on "Creep" yet?")....its surely a more global issue.)

Is there word of an actual patch for this coming?

Im running on a old CRT projection tv and i have no stuttering. Have you tried running a different cable to your tv from the PS3. I assume you are running HDMI maybe try component or composite just to narrow down the issue.

Same exact thing happened to me... except with the PS3 version

Had a 32" Sony CRT, just upgraded to a Sony 60A3000 (connected with HDMI)

The stuttering is getting pretty bad!

I really hope they come out with a fix for this SOON! :(

I think this happens to everyone, some people just don't notice it.
The notes coming in stutter from time to time. Hopefully HMX will fix it.

Our new LCD screen had a GAME MODE setting ...and using that seems to have fixed the problem.

We lost a bit of picture quality, and not we have to flip in and out of game mode when we watch tv... so we are going to continue to look for a better solution...with different cabling etc. but the stutter is gone.

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 LCD TV that I just installed. I saw the same problem with the "stuttering" that you describe - sometimes, the notes wouldn't scroll smoothly down the screen. It wasn't a constant thing, and it wasn't fixed by calibration.

As you noted, "Game Mode" fixes the problem, but the picture doesn't look as good.

My TV had a setting for "CineMotion" in the Video Options menu. If you turn that OFF for the input that you're running Rock Band on, it should stop the stuttering.

My TV also had a setting for "Motion Enhancer" that claims to smooth motion - turning that OFF with CineMotion ON just made the stuttering worse, but leaving it ON with CineMotion OFF was fine. The CineMotion definitely seemed to be the root of the stuttering problem.

Now, there may be some situations where you want CineMotion mode on, in which case you'll still have to go into the TV menus and tweak settings depending on whether you're playing a game or doing something else, but that just seems to be a problem with HDTVs in general.

I had a similar issue yesterday, where the interlacing became apparent. The issue was that we were running through component cables with the Xbox 360 video cable set to SD instead of HD. Switched it to HD and 1080i and it worked fine. You may have an oddity in your video setup?

I have seen this problem since guitar hero the original. I just always assumed it was because i had the ps2 set to widescreen for the game and at time the console could just not keep up. But even once i wne to guiatr hero 3.. the first one for the ps3 i still noticed the problem. So i thought maybe it was my tv but i have seen it on several different tvs that i have played on from dlp to lcd to crt.

It must be inherit to the game. It has goten to the point that it does not bother me that much i just have learned to play around it. Just keep my rythm and just play the notes (have to play by ear these parst instead of visually)

I was playing this game at a friends house the other day. We noticed his system was not running in 5.1 surround because he did not have the Dolby Digital setting turned on.. Once he turned it on, the stuttering started up bad!!

He has a Mitsubishi DLP, I think a 55" maybe a 60" and a Harman Kardon reciever he is running it through...

We turned off the Dolby Digital settings because we could not figure out the problem... So I will send this off to him to give it a try...

I noticed this for the first time last night, and we've been playing a bunch (local multi) so I don't think it's been happening before. Also last night there were long waits with the "Contacting rock central" message after songs. I would hate to think that network issues could affect the middle of songs during local multiplay.
