I have a small HD widescren TV. The TV is capable of 4:3 and 16:9. I own the PS3 version. My TV is capable of 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. For some reason though the left edge where the meter is displayed is cut of from the screen. The system seems to put TV in a 4:3 mode yet is trying to display 16:9.

There's an Overscan option (or somesuch) in the calibration area to deal with this issue. Try checking that and see if the bar becomes visible. You also might want to check your PS3 display options to be sure your TV is set to Widescreen.
