ok. let's face it, rush is still around and still playing and still making new albums after 30 years. they always give a dynamite performance and are definitely the real guitar heros. so that's why i say rock band needs more rush. lots more. tons! heck just start releasing whole albums and maybe after 5 harmonix will put a dent in their music arsenal. geddy, eric, and neil... i think they would be a nice alternative for an awesome challenge.

Actual greatest musicians Mastodon. They are some of the best guitar/bass/drum players ever. listen to anything by them and you will see its near impossible to play. I know a man who has played guitar for 40 years and he cant play Mastodon. these guys are near perfect at their instruments

Also, they kind of rule my face (and other body parts).

But I digress... my roomie would probably die for some more Rush tracks.

OK???? Are you kidding? One of the best bands, with probably THE BEST drummer (I might be a little partial, but still, who could touch Neil?) in rock history, selling out most venues after 35 years is OK? I also think Alex is VERY underrated. Whenever I see them, he usually surprises me, which is ridiculous cause I've only seen them 50 times or so. You're comparing Mastodon with Rush? C'mon....there's no comparo buddy, sorry. But, I respect your right to think so.

Hey, if Rock Band had 58 Rush sonds I'be thrilled!!!! LOL!!!!

Rushs drummer cannot touch Mastodons listen to any of their songs.

That cannot be dignified with a proper response.

Go listen to YYZ off of Moving Pictures (or almost anything for that matter) and you should quickly change your mind. If not, you must be a blinded Mastodon fan.

Any thoughts on why the two Rush songs in the GH and RB games have both been covers? If any band was geeky enough to get onboard the video game train, I'd think it would be Rush. Yet here we are with Tom Sawyer in Rock Band, and it's one of the few songs that are not originals.

Could the master be lost? Perhaps for the early stuff, but I find it hard to believe that recordings as recent as Moving Pictures would not have been well preserved. Rush was already a well-known band by then.

Could the masters be downmixed incorrectly for use in the game? This also seems unlikely, but I confess I have no knowledge about this. I only base it on my image of the band as creative and technical with a distinct approach to each instrument's part. I can't imagine they would have just thrown Geddy's bass and Neil's drums together on the same track.

Could it be a licensing issue? Let's see, if I have this right the song rights are required to make a cover. The band owns the song rights. However, the recording company may own the performance rights, and those are required as well to use the original performance. I believe Rush appears on Mercury records. That's surely a sub-label of someone, but I don't know who. Could that label be the sticking point here? Could this be bypassed if the band went back in and re-recorded the songs just for the game?

This is all just idle speculation, I know. But Rush would be my number one choice for some serious DLC lovin' in the future. Heck, I'd pay $50 for 2112, if it was the original recording. I'd probably pay close to that for a good cover. 8)

Rush are better, not only technically, but songwriting wise they just sound better. They make great use of technology too.
