This is something i mentioned in another thread but i thought was worth exploring more.

I dont know why everyone seems to think breaks are a bad thing. Its inevtiable, and its more true to what a band is like. The same with repititive drum and bass parts, thats about 70% of all music right there.

And lets face it, most bass lines in most songs are just their for rythm. There are very few Les Claypools or Justin Chancellors out there, and the same for drums, there aren't that many Jimmy Chamberlins or Danny Careys out there either. (I'll give props to metal here, some of the best drummers in the world are in death metal bands. I can't stand Morbid Angel, but their drummer is insane).

After all the vocalist is going to be taking breaks quite often already almost no matter what the final song list is.

Some of the greates songs of all time are simple repitive catchy tunes. Hate to say it but that's most of The Beatles, and to an extent Nirvana, among others. Same with Elvis, who i could totally see gettin in this or GH at some point.

Thoughts?

Yep, I agree. People just need to realize there will be breaks in a majority of the songs, and practice their stage moves during the brief intermissions. It's what us real musicians do!

Breaks definitely aren't the end of the world. They actually bring out the feeling of the game because something will always be playing, even if one instrument stops (major advantage over GH, which is where breaks should be feared). It's more about the band as a whole than simply 'everyone just play what comes at you and hope everyone else does as good.'

As for repetitive parts, they repeat because they are usually good, catchy pieces of music that deserve repetition.

I just hope they find some interesting bass lines to put in the game. Bassists like Claypool or Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers, for those who don't know) could be good.

Damn straight! There's nothing cooler than taking a casual break and lookin cool while theres a break. Unfortunately it usually just makes you look egotistical.
