I want to update my Wii so I can connect to the Rockband music store and connect to Rockband Central.
I have tried both channel 1 and 11. I do have wii connect 24 on. I probably have a lot od SSIDs in the area. I am in an affluent neighborhood and I suspect every one of my 60 neighbors ALL have multiple networks running.
My router is a Belkin N1 but I am sick of the troubles.
i am willing to buy a new router. Which one do you suggest? My husband also plays WOW all day and I have to put several ports on TCP(?) so his game would work. Is there a router out there for GAMERS?
I am so sick of these things preventing a smooth flow of information. They act like a PARENT who knows better then I do what I should be accessing on the internet. THE filters and firewalls are killing me. It took us a month to be able to play WOW!! The Belkin does not give me a Wii option for port opening, but it did see WOW as an option for configuring ports ( Blizzard).

In the other thread when the other poster suggested to use wireless "A" He was suggesting that for the laptops. I believe the Wii only supports 802.11B/G I'm fairly confident that it doesn't support 802.11A, so I don't think a new router will help you at all.
How far is the Wii from your wireless Router? That could be an issue as well. The general consensus on that is that the Wii has a very weak antennae. I have heard that if you are sitting next to your Wii and you cannot physically see your router, you will have problems. I don't know how true this is since my router is right next to my Wii. But if it turns out that that is your problem, you might consider either a hard wired solution or an access point closer to your Wii.
Edit: btw I did not have to open any ports on my router for it to work (Verizon FiOs Router).

You could directly wire it with one of the ethernet dongles they sell everywhere. (like this one) (http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Net-Connect-Nintendo/dp/B000X2DP8O/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1233256686&sr=8-1)
Alternately you could get a gaming router (http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DGL-4300-Wireless-Gaming-Router/dp/B0006TIA02/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1233256788&sr=8-2). I've got one just like that one. It allows you to prioritize the Wii over whatever else you have going on the network using QoS (http://www.maximumpc.com/article/D-Link-DGL-4300-Gaming-Router). It works quite well.
