In this thread, we discuss the greatest genius the video game industry has ever seen. The brains behind such amazing games as The Secret Of Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Psychonausts and the upcoming Brütal Legend.

Tim Schafer's always been a genius at making fun, challenging and memorable games. I think he especially does well with characters, since he defines even the smallest bit characters and makes them almost as memorably as the main ones. The humor and style of his games are fantastic. If you have not bought a Tim Schafer game, I suggest you do!

I put up a poll for you to list your favorite Schafer game! I didn't put Brütal Legend up, since it has not been released yet, obviously, though it should be awesome. I'm really looking forward to it!

My favorite is Grim Fandango. It goes down as my favorite game ever made. Just the sheer style of it is something unmatched. It has all of the qualities that make Tim Schafer's games great, but magnified! Especially in the style department. Did I mention that it's a stylish game?

Psychonauts is definitely amazing (thus my avatar, haha). Playing through it again right now. In Edgars mind at the moment and almost ready to start the hard part of the game, haha.

The only Schafer game I have yet to play is Full Throttle, though I've wanted to for a while. I need to find a place to download it for my DOS emulator.

The Monkey Island games for me. So many memorable characters and good jokes.

I've yet to play Psychonauts, but all of the other games in the poll were amazing too.

The Monkey Island games were the bomb back when I was little and we had the enormous family computer in dad's office. Oh yeah, and our Monkey Island came on ten 5 1/4" discs. I still remember being stuck for over a year trying to get into the giant monkey head on Monkey Island!

Played Monkey Island 2 much, MUCH later and enjoyed the hell out of it, and although the ending was funny in an ironic way, I hated it with a burning passion until the third one came out and dispelled that whole "big twist" ending.

Grim Fandango was seriously ****ing funny too, but I never made it all the way through.

Monkey Island 3 was the best of the bunch, though. Murray is still one of the funniest side characters in video game history.

Murray was the best, I felt bad when I had to be rid of him. I was ecstatic to see Stan make a comeback, too!

Never got around to play Monkey 4 (even though we've had the PS2 version for a dog's age). The controls really put me off.

I absolutely love the original. I had the head of the navigator as my avatar a while back, haha. The insult sword fighting, though, and Stan's used ships remain some of my favorite moments in gaming history. I must have played through the original at leas 10-15 times, haha. I've also played the second one a couple and its great as well. Haven't actually played the third, though I know I should.

Oh right, I just remembered the "A Pirate I Was Meant To Be" song in Monkey 3! That was the BEST!

The fact that they ported over the new Sam and Max episodes to the Wii makes me hope that system will cause a Lucasarts adventure game revival. The Wiimote would add a fun dimension to the puzzles in games like Monkey Island and Grim Fandango.

I need Grim Fandango to be rereleased. All I have are Macs now and Grim Fandango won't run on it! Got the first couple monkey islands and DotT downloaded, though.

This man makes great games. I cannot wait for Brutal Legend.

Still been discovering lots of small details in Psychonauts and I'm on my 4th-5th playthrough, haha. For example, it Edgars mind, I had never actually tried to get the bullfighting ad painted. I didn't think I could and I never really needed to. It's fun enough on its own, but I found a hilarious scene by accidentally throwing a confusion grenade at the painter dog where he somehow comes to the conclusion that God is "cat" spelled backwards, not "dog". That's part of Tim Schafer's genius, though. I can still find new and hilarious things even after playing through the games several times.

Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle are ridiculously fun too, I almost completely forgot about those.

You need to get various scripts and try various plays on various sets in this order:

Setting (1 is the one with the pole, 2 has the hill and the water on the side)->mood->script=yield

1. 2->Sad->Knight Of Joy (received from Jasper)=Kills the dragon, allowing you to climb through the portal and receive the script entitled "The Day The Mailboat Came"
2. 2->Either->The Day The Mailboat Came=Brings a prop boat which you can take to setting 3 where you can find "Goodbye Hagatha Home".
3. 1->Sad->Goodby Hagatha Home=Brings blimp down that you take to the catwalks.

Hope that helps.

Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle are ridiculously fun too, I almost completely forgot about those.

Love both of those, too. I loved the multi-layered adventuring of DotT, especially. A ton of hilarious dialogue, as usual, too.

I've never played Full Throttle and have been trying to find a way to play it for a while.

Definitely get Psychonauts. It may not be an adventure game like Schafer's early work, but I think it is the most clever of his games.
