Of note, the 12-21-2012 thing isn't "the end of the world". It's the end of the Mayan calendar. Why? Because those guys were smart enough to know that by now they would be off and would need to recalculate it (though I believe they're only off by an hour or so). Had their culture not been almost completely eradicated by the Europeans, they would have created a new calendar for the next half-century or so.

The people saying the world will end on Dec. 21, 2012 say so because that is the date that the Mayan Calendar will end. Funny thing here is that the Mayan calendar wasn't in sync with our modern-day Gregorian calendar. The Mayan calendar ended sometime in 2007.

You never know, something may happen.... but the thing that makes me a non-believer of it is the fact that there are so many different "scenarios" that each religion/group think will happen. Asteroid, Giant Volcano, Just End Right Then and There (ala- Nothing), Floods, so for myself its like "If they are planning on this so hardcore... wouldn't they know?"

For those that saw Zeitgeist, the religion part pointed out the end would be later on... but they only said that because the Age of Aquarius would be beginning, and not Pieces (thats what we are in now, right?) aka Jesus.

So really, a lot is just from religion and the fact the calender ended then, and if you go to Barnes and Nobles right now you can find a lot of 2012 books that state why so much of this is false information.
