What albums/artists/songs make you smile, what tunes make you gleeful? What is guaranteed always to make you get up singing and dancing?
This is a thread for positive music experiences, unfettered by silly criticism and the like.

The Residents make me giddy, especially the Commercial Album, it's such a snotty concept, I adore it.

I saw Joan Jett last year. I will always adore her. I still turn up the radio whenever she comes on. No one screams "Owwwwwww!" like she does.

There are certain Iron Maiden songs that always give me a lift. I adore Somewhere in Time in its entireity, it's perfect for when you have a bad day, because it's basically about the band having a bad couple of years and looking to the future but feeling lost. And Alexander the Great, there's a song about him too... but is that not about striving too far as well?

The Polecats - Make A Circuit With Me

Depeche Mode - See You (Live - I think it's even better than the studio version)

Nearly anything by these two bands, and Heaven 17 to a lesser extent, will keep me smiling for the entire day regardless of what happens.

What is better than sticking on a CD is when one of your favourite songs comes on the radio totally unexpectedly. I hang around shops or whereever I am to listen to the music if an unlikely event like that happens.

If a song I love comes onto the car radio the moment I pull into where I need to go, I will always stick around and listen to it in its entirety. I've been late to class a few times because of this.

I'm probably going to get bashed for this, but any Slipknot album gets me PUMPED! A lot of people say they're a horrible band, but this is just one band of a diverse selection of rock that I like. They have a lot of energy in their music that just gets me ready to take on anything.

Tool's 10,000 Days is another great album that makes me look forward to my day. I listened to it literally every day for about 6-7 months when I was in college after it was released.

dont stop believin-journey,but this one has to be with arnel pineda,
because if you tie in the meaning of this song, with the rags to riches story of pineda, you listen to it knowing arnel loves to sing, and has fun with his idols.

i'm yours-jason mraz-nothing to decipher,no heart aches, just a fun song to listen to that lifts me up a bit.

pork n beans-weezer- just listening to this song makes me think of the video which makes me laugh.

LOL a prince song came to mind when I saw the title. :)

When I want to be in a good mood, I listen to west coast gangsta rap. The Chronic (and chronic 2000) are guaranteed to brighten my day. Doggystyle, too. Some ice cube, NWA, warren G, really anything on death row that came out in the 90's. I get nervous when I play tupac in brooklyn, though. I keep thinking that Biggie's mom is gonna come running out with a shotgun blaming me (by proxy) for her sons death.

rock band is the perfect excuse. Many times I've told my current gentleman caller "I'm doing the endless setlist this saturday, i'm going to be out of commission all day". Of course, when saturday comes, I always decide that I have no intention of doing the endless setlist and curl up with a bottle of wine and watch a trading spouses marathon. I'm probably the most annoying single woman of all time lol.

I want to make a documentary about happy families, but focus on non-standard families, that sort of thing. I can't imagine it would get picked up though, and if it did, they'd title it something awful like 'I Have Two Mums'. So, it's on the shelf along with my 'win the lottery and make the sorts of adverts that make people smile... without the product placement' plans.

Mighty Mighty Bosstones is a great band for me to listen to. I can't help but smile when I play one of their albums. Frank Zappa is also good for a laugh. Other bands with songs in particular.

Yes-Yours Is No Disgrace(Prime Example)
Gentle Giant-Wreck
Rush-Closer to the Heart(Particularly the version they played in the 90s, it's an excellent little jam session).
The Who-The Real Me(The bass line is one powerful piece of work, puts me into a better mood).

A lot of songs tend to make me happy or smile a bit.

My mother watches these sorts of dramas on TV and gets emotional about them. That kind of thing really ****s me up.

I felt bad for the participants exactly once, and that's because I felt they went a little bit too far (we miss you, pedro!). But for the most part, "reality" shows are as far from reality as you can get. Besides the clever editing, you can clearly see how much the people are coached by the producers - especially in a show like Trading Spouses.

Well it probably helps that I'm straight edge. And while YOT is definitely one of the more aggressively edge bands, the generally anti racist, anti ageist, open minded and positive vibe in their songs is definitely something I can get behind.

This song comes to mind:

Madball - Pride (Times Are Changing)

Times are changing for the worse
Gotta keep a positive outlook
Growing up in such violent times
Have some faith and you'll get by
Thinking back when I was a kid
Times have changed so much since then
All grown up I gotta do for myself
I refuse to depend on anyone else
Life's hard, you struggle some times
In the end I'll get what's mine
But for now I'll deal with the times

That part of the song anyway.

QFT. Ska gets me into a pretty good mood.

A lot of songs that are uplifting to me are really weird though, and I can't explain the reasoning behind most of them.

Anyway, in no particular order:

L'via L'viaquez by The Mars Volta, I used to listen to it before job interviews because of how much it calmed me down and I have no ****ing idea why XD
Everlong by Foo Fighters, the sound of the chord changes combined with Dave Grohl's delivery of the lyrics is pretty epic to me.
Tommy the Cat by Primus, mostly for the combination of silliness and awesomeness.
Boy With a Coin by Iron & Wine
Girl's Not Grey by AFI
Boys of Summer by The Ataris
Jimmy by Tool
Our Final Hymn by Neverending White Lights
Fallen Souls/Broken/Murder/Mercy/every other song ever by Ours
25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago
Idioteque/Electioneering by Radiohead

And probably about a billion others that I'm failign to come up with.
