I have ordered these three items from www.SamAsh.Com . They seem to be the easiest & best solutions to silencing the very loud slaps of the wood drum sticks hitting the Rock Band drum heads without the worry of reducing the kits responsiveness. When I receive them tomorrow I will post a comparison review of the trio… Adam S.
Tama Silent Tips (Pair) Promark TXXB1 Matt (TTCP10) $7.00
Savage Signature Concert Practice Drumsticks (PTXXB1XXX) $15.69
Vic Firth SSJ3 Scott Johnson Scojo Practice Sticks(VSSJ3XXXX) $14.99
and here are the three links...

The wholesale cost of the tips is probably pretty low. If they really work it's a shame the game didnt come with some.

LOL, pretty confident thread title considering you apparently haven't even tested the things. ;)
Looking forward to seeing how well they work, though.

I look forward to your review. I'm not a drummer, but I ordered these:

Do you think they will work?

Spoken to a few friends that are electronic drum users and one salesperson and they have described dramatic pad slap noise reduction in the solid rubber kits they use when the practice sticks are put to task, so yes I do expect positive results. But actually I would prefer to see a modder figure out a way to attach mesh heads to the Rock Band drum kit instead, that would be (expensive) heaven.

"Do you think they will work?"
I for one am not sure because those mallet sticks have (large) wood heads, the ones I ordered are rubber.

I don't think those will work, because one end is just like a regular drumstick and the end the is padded is the back of the stick. If you use the back end it won't be very comfortable.

I own the Scott Johnson Scojo practice sticks. They are great sticks for practicing rudiments anywhere you feel like it, but a little too large to use with the RB kit since they are marching size. As for noise reduction it does remove some of the clacking noise, but I don't know if it would be significant enough for some people.
I'd love to know how the Matt Savage practice drumsticks are. They look exactly like the Deadbeats that I've thought about purchasing.

Disagree, granted when i'd play drums at night i don't want to make alot of noise so i don't wake the others sleeping in the house. But during the day, i love hearing that loud clak noise as i wail away into rock drummni bliss.

Practice sticks really aren't that quiet. Yes, quieter than wood on plastic, but still not that quiet. Friend of mine drums, and we worked tech support together. He would use deadbeats, etc, and I could still hear him clear across the floor in my cube when he used them.
I bought me some timpani mallets. I hate to put out more money, but they really work.
