Can we get some sort of time frame in which to expect to see the 2008 DLC schedule?

Doesn't have '08, but they seem to keep it updated. Scroll down to bottom of page and look on the right side.

after december 18 it's all a surprise each week much like nintendo virtual console, except when they put up ocarina of time, so unless they get led zeppelin or ac/dc. don't expect to hear about dlc ahead of time, i think they released the schedule to show you what they had planned and just to know there is more great stuff to come, but yeah it's all a surprise from here on out

nah, if they have any real intention on making RB a platform to sell music then they will need a proper release schedule.

My guess is that we haven't heard about anything beyond December 18th because Harmonix themselves don't know exactly what's going to be coming up after December 18th.

It's likely that somewhere around December 10th we'll hear the schedule for the January 08. Again, just a guess.

Agreed. Release schedules keep people excited about product, regardless of what kind of product it is. You dont see companies releasing blockbuster games or movies unannounced, so dont expect that of Rock Band DLC.

Agreed. Definitely important for them to maintain a good release schedule to generate anticipation and excitement. Hopefully they'll keep that link updated. Better, yet, I'd love to see something on the rock band site that lays it out all nice and professional. :)

My uninformed opinion says it probably has to do with licensing... no sense in announcing something that might not be finalized or may be retracted later.

I hope they are waiting to announce one of the Albums for right before Christmas to create buzz.

They already have that, even in the current incarnation: just check the first entry under News on rockband.com.

I imagine when they do the re-launch next week, it will be even more visible.

TBA '08

The Who - Who's Next - PRICE TBA
Nirvana - Nevermind - PRICE TBA
Grateful Dead - 18 Unannounced Tracks - PRICE TBA
Metallica - Unnamed Single from Forthcoming Album - PRICE TBA

There ya go. Now you know as much as the rest of us know. And if HMX knows, there's no point in telling us now, not with DLC already having been announced for a month out. I'm sure as it gets closer to '08, we'll hear more about the album content and any other as yet unannounced single tracks.

I believe they already know whats planned the week after x-mas and I bet it will be kind of a Christmas gift if you will.(not free, just good content) . If I remember correctly Nintendo virtual console had some blockbuster downloads that week.....then again, this isn't Nintendo...But I do think we will get something nice that week....I hope:rolleyes:

LOL...

Master of Puppets, God that Failed (I know it off black, but its still good), Orion/Call of the Kthulu (no vocals, but damn that would kick ass. Awesome bass, guitar, and drum parts).

Hell, what about 4 horsemen, creeping death, fade to black...

What the hell, just release their first 4 CDs. :D

Of course they know what tracks/DLC will be coming after Dec. 18th. It isn't like they just pick, license, and release a song on a whim. There is a great deal of dev effort and testing required to map the 4 instrument button sequences for any song. Given this effort, I suspect they have the next 6-12 months of DLC mapped out or on the drawing board already. Further I'm betting it takes a full 4-6 weeks (maybe more) to complete work on one 3 song DLC pack. Will be fun to watch how the schedule progresses after the 18th.

Well, I like that it's on the main site and not only on a platform-specific site like the one you offered. That should keep concerns about the different platforms getting different DLC to a minimum.

I love my PS3, but some people in my camp are real whiners.

Money for Nothing, Sultans of Swing, and Lady Writer. Oh wait, that's Dire Straits, not Metallica. My bad.

Master of Puppets, Creeping Death, Sad But True.

But isn't the entire Black Album supposed to be one of the first albums available for DLC?

3 songs a week, hmm.. wish they could've just release the songs the moment when they're ready, rather than having them schedule per week. I can't wait that long, I need my music NOW! *eats a plate and washes the food*

I want FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE...One...of Wolf and Man...Master of Puppets...and many more by Metallica

Metallica wishlist

And Justice for All

We already have

1. Blackened
2. And Justice for All

we still need

3. Eye of the Beholder (drums alone)
4. One
5. Harvester of Sorrow

Kill Em All

1. Hit the Lights
2. The Four Horseman
3. Motorbreath
4. Jump in the Fire

Ride the Lightning

we already have

1. Ride the Lightning

We still need

1. Fight Fire with Fire
2. For whom the bell tolls
3. Fade to Black (would be amazing in Rock Band, spotlight on lead guitar in the beginning)
4. Trapped under Ice

Master of Puppets

1. Battery
2. Master of Puppets
3. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
4. Leper Messiah (one of Metallica's most underrated songs)

well it definitely takes more work than it would seem, but i doubt it takes 4-6 weeks to complete 3 songs.. i think i read in an interview that they have a ton of employees dedicated to working on Downloadable Content by itself, so they can probably get a good amount of DLC done in 4-6 weeks..

plus they are aiming for "hundreds-thousands" of dowloadable content for this game.. if they set their sights that high, and it took 4-6 weeks to make just one pack, to reach thousands of DLC would take years

We need Fade to Black and One, I agree, but we need Nothing Else Matters and the Unforgiven at least as badly. Best damn songs Metallica ever did, and they aren't available yet! :(

I also want The Unforgiven II, that song inspired me to learn guitar back in the day... but first things first.

I'm a fan of Metallica, and I can't believe I am saying this but...

They need to space out the Metallica releases, we need more stuff yes, but if they listened to all the requests they would probably have to rename the game "Metallica Band with friends" lol. We finally now have Metallica, 4 songs in fact woot. Now give a call to Axl and pay the man and get GnR on here, I'll pay just get it available! We are also seriously lacking Ballads, which would probably make a few fans of the Kareoke sides of things quite happy eh? They seem to be kinda left out the most for the current music available. Just my 2 cents of course.

Great requests there, I love estranged. But November Rain? Can you imagine how cool that would be, epic, epic song. I guess the piano portions might stick out but overall that would be an insane song on Rock Band.

***Back to the main topic***

I could have sworn that i read somewhere that HMX is/was going to release dlc every week from the launch date throughout the "holiday season".

I never heard them say anything about continuing weekly dlc throughout all of 2008. From what i took of the statement was that they are working on some full albums that will be available later and i am assuming more songs, but it made it seem that the weekly dlc was going to stop after the holiday season, which is pretty much 2008.

Why dont we ask one of the HMX guys like Sean or John? Just a generalized statement saying that dlc is going to maintain the weekly availability or not would be nice. Is anyone in good with those guys? Apples or Sushi?

Edgehopper
12-13-2007, 05:52 PM
I believe they've said that they'd like to do weekly DLC, even if it's only 1 song, as long as possible; but that they could only confirm it through Dec. 18 back then. Much better than making a promise and breaking it (GH2 DLC...)
