This could be a great way to customize our drums a little. I would pay $20 -$30 for a set of official Rock Band Drum Pads to quiet the noise.

the logo could be stenciled pretty easily. Some cheap paint and your all set.

I hope that if they do it, its not something that will fall apart like spray paint.

If they reduced the noise, and weren't silly expensive, definitely.

If this poll continues to be 3 to 1 I hope that Harmonix will take notice and make the pads. It would be really nice to be able to hear the actual drums from the game without having to crank my system.

I'd like to see this addressed officially, but a $30 official add-on feels a bit shady. It's almost like you're punishing people for trying to be considerate about their RB noise levels. It's not the consumers' fault that the standard drums are obnoxiously loud...something like this should've been in the box with the game. It would feel like paying for a patch.

I understand the complaint that it should have been in the box or they should have been designed better. It would be like saying I don't like the guitar give me a new for free. In the case of the drums at this point I think a lot of people are going to force Michaels to stock more felt and circle cutters if Harmonix doesn't do this. I for one would rather have a Rock Band one, or maybe you can get custom ones made with your band name. That would make it not actually a fix or patch but an enhancement. Or maybe that is something they planned on doing. Honestly it sounds like a great idea, i got a kick out of seeing my band name in the background.

a drum throne makes playing easier and helps with comfort doesn't mean it should have been in the box. real ectronic solid rubber drum pads make the same sounds.

Personally, I'll be going to Michael's. I like the idea of making my own customer pads.

That's a fair point, but "making playing easier and helping with comfort" is one thing. People aren't getting eviction notices because they're using their kitchen chairs as drum thrones. Dampening the drum sound is less an enhancement and more a fix to a pretty glaring problem. I'd think people would be much more inclined to pay for the former.

People aren't being evicted because of the drum slapping. They're being evicted for singing loudly and turning the game audio way up.

When I first read the title, I thought you mean like 4 separate pads that would register in game. So you could actually arrange the drums how you wish and not in the set form they are now. That would be sweet.

You must be a drummer because I have no idea what you are talking about. I just get used to how the game plays then I play it that way. Although now that you mention it I would like the red in the middle somewhere. Oh ok I see so if you are lefty or something you could move it around. But then in the game you would have to tell it where the colors are so it could move them in the game or you be messed up.

Ok I get what you are saying now, but I still want a custom pad that quiets the plastic noise.

In most cases I'm sure that's true, but clearly the latter can be related directly to the desire to want to hear the actual drum track instead of wooden clacking. I don't mean to speak for the majority, but I know that's why I always end up cranking the volume, personally.

To an extent I'm just playing devil's advocate here for the sake of debate, but it seems weird that people would be lining up to pay extra for something that I view as being pretty essential (clearly it's a non-issue to other people, which I understand). Maybe they could sweeten the deal and throw them in with a licensed drum throne or mic stand or something.

$15 tops. It's foam, and it would cost next to nothing for a large company to stamp them out in quantity. I would prefer not to have any sort of logo on them, however.

Meh, I'm making my own. Love modding and putting the personal touch on my gear.

Meh (http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/generic/8753/)

I could pick the fabric and cut the circle but then how would I get the band logo on there?

I'm telling you Harmonix jump on this.

i dont think it would be wise to sell "official" drum pads. people will just complain that the company should have included them in the first place, or had a better design. i think it would make more sense for them to strike a deal with a third party and have them sell it.

Like most have said, if the cost wasn't ridiculous and they actually worked, sure.

Yes, if they aren't ridiculously overpriced... I'd say if they were maybe $10 - $15 I'd go for it

A bit of paint, maybe a printer, some creativity?

matrix2222

Creativity isn't the problem having it come out crappy is the problem, I could just see hitting the drums and having flakes of paint hit me in the face.

I would pay for them... especially the ones that had full-color pads like that guy made. Makes the pads easier to recognize in the peripheral vision.

If you're relying on your peripheral vision to identify the pad to hit you just need to become more familiar with the kit.

I believe then the colored pads would help him do that. I see why maybe you want to because then it looks like a toy. But think how much easier it would be for people that come over and play for the first time.

I'd pay for some KISS ones fo' sho', one face on each pad. :D

I'm even considering making my own if I can find some kind of clear self-stick "topper". A circle cutter, 4 black mouse-pads, 4 full color KISS faces cut out, and a clear topper.

HEY! SOMEBODY TELL GENE SIMMONS I'D RATHER PAY FOR THAT THAN BUILD IT MYSELF!!! :D :D :D

I've been convinced by all the people that like the arts and crafts method. For now I am going to make these. If Harmonix makes some official ones I may get some of those if they are awesome.

I agree with a previous poster that if Harmonix were to sell the quiet pads themselves it would make them look like bad designers and greedy to boot. But then they’ve partnered with EA so it would not surprise me that much. Anyway I’m starting a new poll regarding this same issue. Would you be willing to pay $15 for a well crafted, generic set of quiet pads?

They wouldn't look bad if they had some added value to them on top of the fact that they quieted the drums. Someone mentioned a mic stand, maybe a drum stool, or maybe custom band names on the pads.

it would have to actually work and not fall apart or look ridiculous and be $20 or less.

I don't know, I kinda like the noise, granted I'm still on easy but when i hear the noise along with the song, it makes feel like I'm really playin it. Also, I got surround sound so if i turn that up, i can't hear the sticks anyways..........

Sorry, but I believe a majority of the people that are getting noise complaints (like myself) are getting them because of the drums, in particular the kick pedal vibration/pounding.

So, the pads don't necessarily help those getting the kick pedal complaints, but I can also speak from experience that some people want to make the pads a little more quiet so that they can better hear the original tracks from the game without having to turn the volume up to such high volumes.

I have no problem in making my own dampening pads, but would certainly pay a reasonable fee to have them pre-made for me.

I have always compared the hitting of Rock Band drum pads to strutting horseshoes. So if I want to play good, all I have to do is play Zelda and ride the horse around.

Anyway, I would pay for a mod, but taping Socks to your drums works good too. A nice rebound and a lot more silence than one may think.

+1 for great justice!

I use drum pads but I'm not going to pay EA for the privilege of making my kit the way it ought to have been in the first place.

If they want more of my money for peripherals, they'll have to make some premium instruments and accessories that go above and beyond what a consumer could reasonably expect in the $170 bundle we got.
