Thought this would be interesting, as the have only identified 5 of the 18 songs.
So I'll start:
Sugaree - for vocals and guitar
Fire on the Mountain - for drums
Stella Blue - for vocals and guitar
Morning Dew - for guitar
:D

The Eleven (killer drums)
Turn On Your Lovelight (fun vocals and good mix of instruments -- nice bass beat)
I really hope they give us the option to have song segues. Fire on the Mountain is great, but you really need to play Scarlet Begonias first then have that jam into Fire on the Mountain.
Alligator would be fun with the Pigpen alligator rattle on the microphone. I'll try and think of some more and edit later.

Casey Jones, because I am convinced it's about TMNT.

US Blues - drums/guitar
Sugar Magnolia - vocals
Touch of Grey - everything
Casey Jones - drums
Help on the Way/Slipknot/Franklin's Tower - an ultimate epic
Uncle John's Band - guitar/vocals
Hell in a Bucket - drums/cowbell
Dire Wolf - STEEL GUITAR!!
Box of Rain - guitar
Brokedown Palace - vocals
Estimated Prophet - guitar/reggae/vocals
Eyes of the World- drums/guitar
Ripple - guitar/vocals
The Golden Road (to unlimited devotion) vocals/drums/guitar
Some extended jam sessions like Warf Rat would be awesome as well.
EDIT - the bass parts would be great for most of these as well!

Scarlet into Fire on the Mountain would be awesome.
I would love to see Terrapin Station but it is probably to obscure for most people. Never a big hit although I think it is one of their best. I am attempting to learn this on real guitar.
Ramble on Rose if they pick the right version.
Tennessee Jed would be fun
Brown Eyed Women is another one that would be fun.
Playing in the Band would be appropriate and could go on forever.
Of course the problem is that everything they put out will be studio versions of songs which we all know is far from their best stuff. If they actually issued some decent versions of live stuff, I would be in heaven.

The dead have big hits? I thought most of there stuff was obscure to non-fans.

Relatively speaking, yes, the Dead have some big hits.

The biggest factor in me buying this game was the announcement of the Grateful Dead tracks. Heck, I even bought a 360 just for this. It's going to be digital orgasm and I can't wait. Hopefully it won't be February before we get it. Since Micky Hart helped design the game, I bet it comes sooner than later.
And yes, Scarlet->Fire is a must.

The biggest and most obvious issue (unfortunately) with putting out any live material is that it would probably end up being a rhythm nightmare, especailly for the drums. With that said, we probably won't see any DLC stuff apart from any studio recording that used a click track for consistant timing.
But...how sweet would a killer China -> Rider be??? Or a serious Estimated -> Eyes????

Same here. I held out for RB instead of GH because of the Dead and the Who.

BTW, it would be great to jam online with some other deadheads once the DLC comes out AND I can figure out how to get the content. Got the guitar controller figured out, it is that damn regular one that gives me fits.

You will get Casey Jones (Oakland '92 baby!), Touch of Grey, Uncle John's Band, and Box for sure most of these have already been announced. These are going to be studio tracks, I highly doubt we will get live, even with Dick's Picks - so my bet is we may get Scarlet, we may get, Fire, but we won't get Scarlet->Fire.
Besides Help->Slipnot->Franklin's Tower, I don't know, I am not sure I could play for 25 minutes straight!
Whatever they do, THEY BETTER NOT BE COVERS, I am not sure I could handle that!
Edit: Well, unless the cover band is DSO!

Now that's an idea! With 18 songs, you could put together a show with Deadheads online! Sign me up!

Well ok we know the 5 songs they already announced:
Casey Jones
Sugar Magnolia
Touch of Grey
Truckin
Uncle John's Band
These songs also happen to be the 1st 5 tracks on The Very Best of the Grateful Dead album that came out a couple years ago
the rest of that album's track list is:
Friend of the Devil
Franklin's Tower
Estimated Prophet
Eyes of the World
Box of Rain
U.S. Blues
Golden Road
One More Saturday Night
Fire on the Mountain
The Music Never Stopped
Hell in a Bucket
Ripple
so I would imagine most songs would come from that list.
Now if I got to pick what I wanted I would be going with some of the following:
1/2 Step Mississippi Uptown Toodleloo
Bertha
Jack Straw
Mama Tried
Tennessee Jed
Terrapin Station
Wharf Rat
Cold Rain and Snow
Stagger Lee
Row Jimmy
St. Stephen
Obviously we all want the epic stuff like
Help>Slip>Franks
Scarlet>Fire
China Cat>Rider
Dark Star
Estimated>Eyes
but it seems like that stuff is just not possible, especially if there's no good studio recordings of it
all I know is since they're choosing so many songs, there has to be at least a couple epic tracks in there... and like most people posting in this thread, the dead songs are the main reason I decided to get rock band... now if we can get Phish to get back in the studio and re-record YEM for Rock Band, then I could die a happy man

Taking reason/logic into consideration...
Golden Road
Scarlet Begonias
Throwing Stones
Eyes
Easy Wind
Watkins Glen Soundcheck Jam :p
And man, don't even get me started on Phish. Could you just imagine...
Cavern
Runaway Jim
Weekapaug Groove
Down With Disease
OH GOD... CHALK DUST (FREAKING) TORTURE. OK... I gotta stop.

I am betting that you are right and that most of them will come off of that list/album. Sure seems the easiest.
Thanks for posting FOD! I had forgot about that! Now let's see, faster early 70's style or slower late 70's and later style?
So many damn choices!
Wouldn't it be awesome if you could just run and mp3 through your computer and it would spit out a RB track. I don't think I would stop playing.

dmaximus - interesting to see that you went for 1/2 Step. Stagger Lee would be great, I forgot about that. My wife would love Cold Rain and Snow!
DeadHeadFred - You need to look at the photo credits for a Phish reference! You will know it when you see it!;)

In terms of listening gotta go with the slower version, just so much more emotional. Not sure how enjoyable that would be to play though... ah who am I kidding I would love it.
Not sure if anyone spotted the Phish reference in the game yet, but one of the clothing items, a hooded sweatshirt, I think it's in the Rock Category... the description says You can feel good about this hoodie

Yea I just thought of the whole end section, with people belting out the whole "Across the Rio Grand-e-o..." part for minutes on end... haha although with how difficult that part would be on vocals, maybe it should be left out of the game

Cool thing about the slow versions of FOD is that there are two guitar solos, first by BW and then Jerry. Problem is they follow a keyboard solo, so that would be tough unless RB adds keyboards.
I just listened to the (bonus, I think) instrumental demo of Peggy-O from the Terrapin Album and that solo would be nice. What am I saying, just about every GD song I listen to has a nice Jerry solo.
Anyway, hurry up with the GD DLC!

I gotta say that my ultimate list would have to go along the lines of:
Scarlet Begonias - just fun to play on real guitar
Fire on the mountain - my alltime favorite dead song
Sugaree - ****ing amazing guitar solo on Dicks Picks 29
Big River - best version of the song
Loser - intensely emotional solo
Man Smart Women Smarter - just got a cool groove to it
Casey Jones - everyone knows this song
Truckin'
Easy Wind - classic pigpen blues
Ripple
Cold Rain And Snow
Samson and Delilah
US Blues - just a great american song
Goin Down the Road Feelin Bad - great beat to it
Promised Land - goody and a shorty
Johnny B Goode - Gotta love jerry's version at the closing of winterland
Supplication - interesting song to play
Franklins Tower - cool groove
i could go on for days but these are the essentials
