...In God's name, please don't let this movie suck...For some reason this is reminding me of Clive Barker's Jericho minus the demons and timerift-anomalies...

Not too happy about a mask-less Destro, but since this is an origin story, that might still change.
If have to say that the cgi Snake-Eyes bits look very meh, though. The jerkiness of the movements reminds me of the cgi in Spider-Man 1, which isn't a good thing.
Looks like it'll be some good campy fun, though, which was all I expected from this movie. That, and Rachel Nichols and Sienna Miller in tight outfits. Rawr.

This movie makes me cry.
But I'm already rather proficient at pretending GI Joe movies don't exist (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093066/).

Hm, that trailer wasn't as awful as I was planning for it to be... but I'm not letting my guard down for an instant!

how dare you?!? that movie was awesome! granted, i was 6 when it came out and about 10 before i saw it.
This new one looks to be "boom boom bang bang" completely devoid of a good story, but thats fine with me.

Back when that cartoon movie came out my old friends liked singing the Cobra-La Battle Cry to the tune of the Smurfs song.
And yes, it's impossible to get that unholy jingle-like mash-up out of your head.
Now you know, and knowing is half the battle!

The Movie is going to be good. That being said, it is sapposed to be over-the-top. It is GI-Joe afterall. This, along with Monsters Vs. Aliens, Transformers 2, and The New Terminator, will for a lack of a better term, Blow Up the box offices this year.

Haha, I can sum up why the 80s toon movie stinks in one sentence:
"He's in a COMA!" ;_;

Hearing the Cobra-La Battle Cry being sung to the tune of the Smurfs song is more than enough to put you into a coma, either that or make you laugh uncontrollably like you had been poisoned with Joker's Smilex gas.

Ugh, remind me to skip that Smurfs version.
I saw a big article online about all the crap that happened during production of the 80s toon movie (the reason Duke's "death" was cancelled, Cobra-la battle cry being a joke)... but I can't find it anymore! It was such a great read!

This is true. We are talking Joe with kung fu grip people. If this movie was based on pure story and the high lite is the acting I wouldn't want to see it. These type of movies are made to demonstrate how far we have come and are going with special effects. I just can't imagine the budget it takes to make them but with how much a large popcorn costs these days I am sure they can afford it.

Exactly. I have a huge budget for popcorn set aside for movies like this. I go to be entertained with visuals sound and story. An i can forgive story if the rest just sets me back in my seat. It doesn't have to be all form and function, as long as it functions on my level. ;)

Probably because he's awesome. Not Kurt Russell awesome (nothing can be THAT good), but he's certainly no slouch. I think he is a more suburban Sam Elliott, like he classes up whatever movie he is in even when the movie is terrible.
Actually, you know what? Sam Elliott may just be as close to Kurt Russell as we will ever get.
This movie looks like a generic Hollywood summer blockbuster. I probably will see it since popcorn movies really need to be experienced in the theater with huge screen, ear bleeding sound, and a crowd of people wanting to be entertained. I don't think it'll be that good, and I hate the CG already (why can't we get real special effects anymore?), but if it's cheesy enough, it'll be a fun ride.

I enjoy popcorn flicks, and really, critics need take into consideration the motivation behind the movie. I'm SURE the writers don't want to make this the next Saving Private Ryan, thus, they're making it really action-packed, which is what GI JOE should be.
Leave deep storyboard writing to Zack Snyder, and call it good.

I have to agree with this. Sam Elliott just makes a movie worth watching. Take Ghost Rider for instance. I almost lost all hope when Elvis's step son got the leading role, but then i saw Sam was in it, and i though, yea i gotta see this. Dennis has classed up a couple movies in his time as well.
