I;ve been getting cramps while doing extra fast hi-hat beats in RB. I'm using some regular vic firth nylon tipped sticks. Evetually my hands ad just but I'm guessing a larger width on the handle could help(might rig something up with foam). Any tips for holding the drum sticks? BTW the cramps are in my hands.

You are probably gripping the sticks too tightly.
Try holding the sticks, somewhat loosely, with your thumb, index, and middle finger. The last two, much like in golf, are there for minimal support. Keep a loose grip and holding like this allow you to do drum rolls pretty easily (or just really fast parts).
Best of luck to ya.

youtube has tons of beginner drums lessons. With practice you'll relax your hands and wrists. But watch some videos will help preventing injuries.

Initially, We thought that said "moral support" and were greatly amused.

Decided to let me live eh? Well in that case, since the fear of losing my life is now consuming every waking though, I change that to "moral support!"
use the lightest sticks you can. also use short ''drum roll'' type motions. its never gonna be easy because the pads are too high for proper sticking.

everyones hands will get tired after awhile of playing, just rest in between breaks and don't hold the sticks too tight, like everyone stated try youtube. search for how to hold drum sticks and they show you.
