So... here is what is going on....
I just got a call from this one band I am friends with asking me to fill in on their show Friday (yes, this Friday) since their drummer just called and said "F You Guys, I am out." I want to, but it is such short notice and I don't really know if I could do it... although their music is pretty basic on drums.
Not really sure what to do... if I say no I'd feel bad since it is a really big show and I really want to help... but if I say yes it will screw up a lot of my plans this week (nothing big, just little things)... hmm.

I'd do it. They're giving you a week to work on their chops. If I were you, that would be enough time for me to figure out their stuff.

Do it, it could be your big breakthrough! Or not. It's still fun and could be a good opportunity.

Haha, my full time band just co-headlined with Exodus, I think I got a pretty big breakthrough with that :p
I'll probably do it...

Co-headlined with Exodus? Shït... Lucky-ass bastard!
Checking out the band now. Pretty cool stuff so far. Got some nice thrash energy to it.

Here is another one of their songs that isn't on their Space.... its pretty sick! Reminds me of Iron Maiden or something.

i say do it....
if its pretty basic stuff that you think you can get down in one week then i say playing live > watching live > sitting at home staring at walls > watching home improvement.

Is it a paying gig, and if so, did they offer you a cut? I'm not saying it's all about money, but it's about the professionalism of it.

Not really, its the "Slave to the Metal" Tour... not sure what that is... but I guess there are record labels or something... but then what I didn't mention was that I told my girlfriend I'd take her to the Meshuggah show that same night.... so unless these guys are playing early I would feel HELLA bad for letting my GF down :(

That's tough. I say, work on the material today, and try to gauge how tight you're gonna have it by the time of the show. If you're gonna have it solid, you might wanna do it if there're gonna be labels there. Of course make sure your GF understands and is cool with it (and you for sure better already have a plan lined up to make it up to her). But if you're thinking you're only gonna be so-so, you might wanna pass so as to not disappoint your girlfriend.

Tough call. It really depends on who you have a closer connection with and what's more important to you in life.

Seriously.
The thing is... I have practice with my actual band tonight, so I can't do that tonight, then tomorrow my girlfriend and I are going to our friends bands show (whom we keep missing), so right now I am pretty so so. The thing is that yes there will be labels there... but this isn't my band... sure it would open doors, but still, I am only a fill in. When I first talked to the guitarist this morning I was excited, until I realized how busy I am this week and was like "Oh crap... hmmm."
And for who I care for more, of course my GF... plus I told these guys I would do the drum tracks on their CD they are recording this year and that it would be tough to play shows, so they should be understanding if I can't, but whenever this comes around I am always the first guy they come to, they REALLY want me heh... DECISIONS SUCK, but I may go with the GF since she is really looking forward to the show.

You going to the Meshuggah/Cynic/Faceless show? I might choose to go then because along with making your girlfriend happy, you get to see Cynic (and Meshuggah, but I would be less excited for them. I don't know how they ended up headlining)! They should know that they are imposing, though and hopefully can find some sort of backup plan to rely on.

Yep yep, I am stoked to go to that show too. I feel bad though since they really want me to drum for them, their rhythm guitarist's last band was looking for a drummer and he constantly messaged me about drumming... i just couldn't though since at the time I was in 3 other bands ahaha. But I shouldn't feel bad since this isn't really my problem and I had already made plans... so ya know...

You could always make it up to them, too. You'll have more time to play in their band after and I'm sure they would be happy either way.

Eeeh, not really. My "full time band" is pretty much all of my time aside from Work, especially after we get our van fixed we'll be doing shows all the time. I did jam with these guys last week and told them I'd be more then happy to record since that won't take so much time, and having 3 days to learn their stuff... although easy ( I know I can do it) it would just be kinda hectic this week since it seems like I have plans every day... maybe next time!

Fu** that then. Take her to that show then.
That's what I would do.
I mean, I did that once, giving up Slayer for a day with the ol' ex.
