View Full Version : Air bubble on my Yellow Pad - it doesn't work anymore.

A few days ago I noticed that there was a small air bubble forming under the rubber skin on my RB2 drums, on my yellow pad. It stopped working yesterday. Today I tried it again and after I smush down on the bubble with my thumbs for a few seconds it works for about a third of a song, but I'm constantly forced to pause and it's making anything beyond just messing around in single player impossible.
Is this actually causing anything or is it a by-product? Is there a way to fix this? Or are my drums screwed? My warranty is expired too. :(

I had the same problem, on all my pads. I believe it was primarily because I am something of an aggressive player.
I tried the official drumskins, which didn't fix it (I think they will prevent it from forming, but if you already have a decent one it doesn't help much). I tried re-gluing them but the basic problem was that the rubber had stretched. In retrospect RMAing them might have been the best idea, but instead I decided to get new pads of my own. I ordered 7 1/4 diameter, 3/8ths thick natural gum rubber from an industrial rubber supply company (if you search the forums for gum rubber, you'll find the 50 or so page long thread discussing the different options and places). I tore out the old pads, and simply put the new ones in.
I don't have the colors anymore, but that's easy enough to fix with a little creativity. But what I lost in asthetics I more than made up for in quality. I love these things- there's more rebound, and rolls especially are so much easier now. And they're extremely quiet to play, if you're willing to spend the $25 or so, it's worth it.
