Worst. Wii Peripheral Attachment. Ever.

...I'm not going to say anything. But this is what GameRevolution (http://www.gamerevolution.com/manifesto/view.php?id=400) has to say, I'll highlight the reason what they say is wrong with the peripheral attachment...

Today's product-a-day is possibly the stupidest gaming peripheral I have ever seen - The ezGear Combat Kit for the Nintendo Wii.

You see, its a plastic shield and a plastic-and-foam sword (optional scimitar included!) that you snap your Wiimote nunchuck into.

Looks kind of fun, right? Like your little cousin could enjoy swinging it around as he plays Zelda. That would make a funny YouTube video, right? There's even a picture of Link right on the back of the box.

Here's the problem: He can't play Zelda, or pretty much any other game.

It's because the sword blocks the infrared sensor on the front of the Wiimote, so you can't point at anything. You can't even navigate the Wii menu to start up Zelda.

But wait! There's more! Not content with breaking just half of the nunchuck, the shield attachment makes it impossible to hit the C button without also hitting Z at the same time.

So what's the point of a controller attachment that renders your controller useless? To separate $39.99 from your wallet for a couple cheap pieces of plastic.

Instead, you can just pick up a stick and pretend it's a sword like we did when we were kids. That's free, and is equally compatible with the Wii.

A lot of people have sold their Wii after a few months of playing (or not playing I should say), I rencently read an article on GameInformer(december issue) related to that....I wonder what's gona happen, is this the end for Nintendo?? The once Goliath of the gaming industry, it's a shame.

I don't understand why that sword is blocking the signal. You put the Wiimote inside the GHIII guitar controller and it still works great.

In zelda, the IR sensor is used to aim the bow and arrow.

The thread is about the sword and shield attachements being completly usesless and stupid.

I personally don't hate the Wii, my nephew has it, but the novelty wears off quickly, but honestly accesories like the Wiiwheel, WiiZapper, and especially these ones are just plain dumb. I mainly was excited about the Wii because I wanted to play Zelda Twilight princess.

Yea having to play the highest rated game of all time is really tough on us (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/supermariogalaxy?q=super%20mario%20galaxy), having superior aiming in shooters is really really tough (http://wii.ign.com/articles/803/803978p1.html), to add even more salt having some variety (http://wii.ign.com/objects/827/827358.html) in games (http://wii.ign.com/objects/893/893610.html)to choose from instead of countless generic FPSs, seriously its terrible!

Obviously I'm being sarcastic the Wii rocks, the one bad thing about it though is that were forced to buy thirdparty minigame shovelware and stupid peripherals....oh wait...I chose to only buy good Wii products.

Thats too bad that garbage like the shield and sword make it on shelves. I personally do not like the wii one bit, it just bores me after an hour.

I've played it, I thought it was 8/10, cutesy, lots of fun for a while, but not much more than that. Really made me want to play the old school SMB thats about it. See how much that review was worth? Moot. Go play the damn game yourself.

I wouldn't really say he's being touchy, just arguing with those who say the Wii is the worst console. He's entitled to his opinion, as are they, of course.

I think the wiimote is a lot better than controllers, but I think controllers are utter crap, and the worst way to play an FPS ever conceived. I might enjoy playing with an iPod scroll wheel more. ;) I agree, give me the mouse and keyboard any day, but if I have to use a console, give me a wiimote, not a regular controller.

You are correct, though, listening to game reviews alone will make you a sad panda. I've played highly reviewed (and very popular) games which I couldn't stand (HL series, Starcraft, Mario 64). Personal opinion means a lot in this arena, and no amount of opinion from others can guarantee you'll like a game.

Obviously mouse and keyboard is the best, the wiimote is extremely close though, and a billion times better than last gen's crutch "dual analog". You either haven't spent enough time with the wiimote(see console gamers trying to play on a kb/m for the first time) or had some faulty calibration, IR situation. As a avid pc gamer for almost 20 years, acuracy in aiming is important to me, the Wiimote is the best option on any home console(until PS3 Unreal 3 comes out with kb/m support).

edit: may I ask which FPSs you played? Because if it were Red Steel or COD3 then lol.

Gamerankings and Metacritic use atleast 30 reviews on each game. SOTN is great(hell amazing) but its not the top on either site. The only game giving Super Mario Galaxy a run for the top spot is Zelda: Ocarina of Time (a downloadable game on the Wii)

i've got nothing against the wii and once i get money i'm seriously thinking of getting one for zelda, mario galaxy (which looks like a crusher) and super smash bros. but thats only 3 games that interest me out of like 100000000000 so i'll stick with my 360 and my brand new ps3 which i have no games for other than mlb 2k7 sincei 'm poor atm
