Did you turn on a standard controller?

Hi duckerquack,

Since there are no buttons in the Microphone, the only way to join the Band with the Microphone is to have an Xbox 360 controller plugged in and powered on. When you're ready to use the Microphone, press the A button to join the Band.

This little nugget of helpful information would have been great to include in the game manual. I spent a very frustrating 15 min troubleshooting the microphone trying to figure out why it wasn't being recognized by the game. I eventually figured it out on my own, but the first place I looked when I had the problem was the section of the manual on singing and there is no mention about using a standard game controller to use the mic.

Also, a prompt from the game would be helpful if it detects a mic plugged into the USB port without a standard controller connected letting the user know that the standard controller needs to be connected in order to use the mic.

Yeah, no kidding, I called ea to have them ship a replacement & then just by accident later I happened to figure out that the mic DID in fact work... DETAILS PEOPLE!!

I agree that it can be quite frustrating to try to figure that out. I will pass along your feedback concerning how this is detected in the game. In the meantime we have added the information to our support site as well as stickied it in this forum.

I do apologize for the confusion and hopefully we can help with that moving forward.

Umm, not sure about any of you, but I had a box pop up the very first time I plugged everything in and the game explained to me I had to plug in a controller.

Maybe you don't see this unless you started the game with the mic plugged in, but reading those might be helpful ;)

I bought Rockband yesterday for xbox 360 and my mic wont work! I'm using my wireless controller, it reads as set up and will allow me to join the mic to the game, but no sound comes out of it which causes a fail. I've turned up both the volume and sensitivity... Is the mic just broken?
