I have very young children, and would love to have some typical childrens songs to be able to sing with them, and have them play easy on the drums (with no foot pedal, since they can't reach). The 3 year old is getting to be able to tap the drums when the right color comes, but is way too aggressive with the tapping.
I'm thinking songs like the following:
Take me out to the ball game
I've been working on the railroad
Old MacDonald
etc.
Besides these, more pop-like songs are better for parties. The more popular song selection is what got me to buy Rock Band instead of Guitar Hero.

Never gonna happen, RB is a "Teen" rated game and will release real music aimed at players in their teens and above.
Why not just buy a tape of the kiddie songs and sing along with them?

although your idea is adorable, i don't think the game was intended for kids that young in age
even with the singing, the pitch correction and all that would be too technical for young kids.. they'd never be passing any of the songs really
plus the thought of a rocker with spiked green hair and a tattoo covered body singing "Old McDonald" probably wouldn't work too well

They may not sell many, but they'll sell the bundle to a new segment. Xbox should be pushing for this since the Wii is taking over casual gaming. Also, there should be relatively fewer costs associated with securing rights, and developing the easier songs.
My 3-year old sometimes comes in the room when I'm playing solo, and even though she doesn't know the songs, she grabs the Microphone and pretends to sing along, and wants to do the drums.
People who would buy them are probably not people who take the time to hang out in these forums, so I think there is demand, it's just under-represented here.

i think what it would boil down to though is the image and the original target audience the game was intended for.. i definitely know for a fact that kids love the drumsets and the microphone and all.. but then again, could a 3-5 year old understand the concept of the game?
with the pitch detection, the complexity of the note charts for children.. kids so young probably wouldn't understand the concept of hitting the pads in a particular order resulting in the "drumming" of the game, they'd probably much rather hit the pads any way they want and sing into the microphone any way they want, rather than following the notes and the pitch that is expected for each song..
it would be interesting to see how a game designed for that age group but involving the "rock band" feel would do though - interesting idea, i just don't feel that childrens songs would work well for this particular game simply because of the complexity of it already
i mean there are grown folk who can't understand the concept lol.. there is a big learning curve to using the guitars and drums, i doubt children so young would be able to understand the game at all

would they rather spend time on a (metallica/acdc/tool/insert popular band here) and sell a thousand copies to almost everyone
or spend time on twinkle twinkle little star and alienate their audience and sell (at most) 100 copies

If your kid wants to play drums just do this
Go into practice mode with drums
Pick "Welcome home"
Pick just the intro to the song (It has no drums)
Then pick 50% speed
And then they can just bash away at the drums and make noises
Same thing with the microphone just pick mic practice mode and just pause it and theyll be able to freely sing into the mic and itll come out on the TV louder lol
