View Full Version : Seriously, just legalize it.

Michael Phelps suspended for using a bong? Really?

Our national debt will dry up in no time if we just legalize it and tax it extra. People will buy it, and cops can worry about more serious crimes than a little pot smoker. What danger do stoners propose?

I don't smoke, but seriously, it makes sense. Plus, more people do it than people think.

Yeah, it's time to stick it to the man, man! We gotta stick up for what we believe in, man!

It makes too much sense, thus why it will never happen.

Mostly, it's a religion-wall that stands in the way, and I'm gonna end the religion talk there.

I don't smoke, but if was legalized, sales of Doritos and Cheetos at my grocery store and all others would increase 100%+! :D

Like I want more people driving impaired on the road along side me, lol.

They'll never legalize it because they can't control it. If they were going to make it legal, they'd want it like cigarettes so they can tax the hell out of it. Since anyone can grow it in their basement, it'll stay illegal.

Not like it's that hard to grow tobacco, either. Just doesn't grow well in colder climate areas, but nothing the aforementioned basement can't fix.

Trust me, just because anyone can produce it doesn't mean the government can't excessively regulate it. Take the regulations on home brewing, for instance... granted, almost nobody follows them to the letter, but they're there...

These are my thoughts, as well. Liquor may be legal, but there is still a stupidly high number of people that decide to drive under its influence. I would hate for people to have legal access to yet another perception-altering drug before getting behind the wheel.

Yea about 3/4 of our school are potheads so I think the gov't could make some good money off taxes if they do. And I'm part of the 1/4 in our school

Oh please. When's the last time you were watching the news and heard about a car accident due to one driver driving stoned? I'm guessing either never or very very rarely. I personally have never heard such a story.

The fact of the matter is, if people want pot, they're going to get it. They're getting it now, and guess what, they're driving under the influence of it now. And it's every bit as illegal as drunk driving. That's why the charge is "Driving Under the Influence" and not "Driving Drunk".

You're wrong on that, in Canada there is an increasing number of accidents related to people driving while high because everyone assumes it's no big deal and not as bad as alcohol.

Who says that it impairs driving? It makes some people drive better including me because I am more aware of my surroundings.

This is true, actually. People who have smoked are a little bit more paranoid, so are more alert for traffic situations. There was an official test and it proved that stoned people are better drivers. Only problem is, they are driving too slow... :)

Coming from Holland, I still see that policy as the best solution. Allow people to grow a small amount themselves (up to 2 plants or so) and a maximum possession of 5 grams. Designate certain places that can sell the stuff and have police strictly enforce that. And sure, put heavy taxation on it.

This also keeps weed and harder drugs seperated. Holland has one of the lowest numbers of hard drug use in the world.

Seriously, this would make everybody happy. And hopefully keep a lot of them "drug" tourists out of Amsterdam and the rest of Holland. :D

If alcohol was illegal there would be less drunk drivers on the road because people don't like to go out of their way to get stuff.

If marijuana was legal there would be more stoned drivers on the road because people don't like to go out of their way to get stuff, throw it in a 7-11 and it'll be used way more.

There is huge ups to both side of the argument, but I don't want my safety even more compromised, it's bad enough with alcohol and idiots on their cellphones.

I'm going to lock this down to avoid discussion about recreational drug use on these gentle T for Teen forums.

Also, whether we should legalize it or not, it's currently illegal so it should come as any surprise that Phelps was suspended, especially considering how closely pro sports are watching drug use by athletes these days.
