View Full Version : Penalty For Quitting Online Matches

At least every other match my opponent will quit on me if I'm winning, which is frustrating because you don't get wins towards the achievements, and you don't even get to finish playing the song. Why don't you get a win if you're opponent quits an online match? Why don't they get a loss? Why don't either of your TrueSkill rankings change? GH3 handles this correctly; I don't know why Rock Band didn't implement the same thing. Any chance this can get fixed?
In the meantime, I'd recommend going to your Recent Players list in the 360 Dashboard if someone quits on you, and leaving them a bad player review for quitting early.

That's how it is with most online games.
I think the reason it's such a frequent problem in RB is because they have those Achievements for "streaks" which really screws up the whole idea of "It's not if you win or lose it's playing for fun," ideology.

My friend likes to play online a lot and she's good, 100%ing songs left and right on expert and she's constantly having people quit on her.

Miraculously, after two drop-outs I got 5 straight people to actually finish matches against me. Knocked out the score duel streak and now I just need to get tug of war. Yay.

i think it is still technically a loss for them, and a win for you, but it just doesnt count towards your streak, i had someone quit on me, and right after i checked my trueskill rating and it had gone up 1 level (i checked before that match it it was one lower).

I agree this is getting old. If I lose I take it like a man and try to start my streak in the next match. Whats worse is I can't even see my score at the end when they quit. It should let you finish the song, and at the end shows and posts the results to both players.
(player who quits got zero notes/score the remainder of the song)
And then give them a 30min timeout penalty before they can start another match. They did this in PvP Battleground games in World of Warcraft and it stopped the quitters.
I mean whats even the point of ranked matches if people can quit at 98%

Acutally what's even worse then quitting at 98% is when they actually finish the whole song and before the score comes up they quit. You don't even get a win for that! Even though you played the whole song the jackass on the other end quit while your avatar was celebrating so you don't get the win. I played 10 ranked score duels today, didn't lose one, but didn't get the acheivement for five streak till the 10th match. Quitters should be banned.

If there is a patch made for that, then it needs to recognize the difference between when people quit, and when a person's internet connection fails. Sometimes those wi-fi signals are not the strongest, and if it fails, that's not the fault of the player. I agree that there needs to be some kind of patch for quitters to be penalized, but a player does not deserve a loss for a faulty internet connection.

I agree about people quitting they should be penalized for this. It has happened to me so many times. If I play against someone smoked me I let them enjoy their win and then I know it's time to get out. I wish they would get a patch for this and penalize the quitters!
i played about 30 matches yesterday n won more then half with ronald n at the very end of a match sumone quits n the "other player has left" shows up n i get burned. If only these bloody pansys would take a loss like a man n not crawl back to the main menu like a little 8 year old when he gets beat at a VIDEO GAME.

Agree with everything here. Needs to be fixed no question. Very annoying when you are crushing somebody by 100k and you get nothing for beating them and they get no penalty for quitting. I think no games should have an option to leave the match in a ranked setting....If you can't finish don't start, I also like the idea of the 30 min timeout that would certainly keep these losers from pulling the trigger every single match.

the problem with that though is, couldn't someone just unplug their internent connection and say it "failed?" What they need to do is just make it so if someone quits, the person who stayed still wins. Although it still wouldn't stop quitters (as they would get no penalty) it would still be a win for the other guy. Just a thought.

Had this happen to me more times than I could count last night. I don't understand the mentality of people today, "Oh no I'm going to lose...I should disconnect and then it won't count....wha...wha." I really think is a societal problem that started with the "new math" concept, you know 2+2=6 if you feel that that is right. No you idiots, it equals 4, EVERYTIME, it is math, it is an absolute. Every time you add the same two numbers together you get the same result.
And shortly after this wonderful concept was born, I showed up late to one of my daughter's first sporting events and asked the coach what the score was...he looked at me like I had an alien busting out of my chest and said, "Oh, WE don't keep official scores, so everyone is a winner." What a load of crap, when I grew up and played sports, there was a winner and a looser, plain and simple. And you know what I turned out all right, well at least I think I did.
Sorry about the rant....DOWN WITH QUITTERS, STAND UP TAKE YOUR LOSES LIKE AN ACTUAL HUMAN BEING!!!!! IF YOU CRUSH ME YOU CAN HAVE YOUR WIN, GIVE US THE SAME COMMON COURTESY.

HMXSean and maybe even HMXJohnLok both said it counts, but you just don't see it.
I got the Achievements and I know for a fact I never got 5 complete song wins in a row because people would quit, but you still get the win as long as it said "The other player has left"
And I can testify that just the other day I was playing Ranked Score Duel, and I had several people continuously quit, and I went from 28 to 31 TrueSkill rank without finishing any songs.
Just keep track after each match, you'll see.

My boyfriend plays the guitar and I do the singing. He's been trying to compete in online matches and pretty much everyone he's played has quit before or in the middle of the song? What is the point? Also, why quit if you're the person winning, make sense to you? Definitely not to us. I tried on the singing part and had 2 people quit on me as well. Honestly, singing on this game isn't the hardest even on expert lol. Anyway, anyone have any ideas as to why?

So as I said, I'm a singer. I just tried tug of war and score duel and everytime the people would choose the song, start and if I would get ahead they would quite or they would get to the song list and quit. Hell I even sang a song on expert that I haven't even done, nor have I heard before! C'mon people, you're not always going to win. Take it like a champ. You win some, you lose some. That's how you learn to become better at something. Also, it seems like people hold the mic up to their speakers cause there is NO fluctuation of the voice arrow what-so-ever. I know a lot of these songs and can sing them without looking, but I know not every note is always going to be perfect!

I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet...
But the main reason (I believe) they don't count it as a win towards your streak is because of "gaming the achievements" -- it's a pretty big thing in online games.
"Hey, Joe, let's play RB ranked match -- you lose 5 to me in score duel, and I'll lose 5 to you in score duel. Then we'll do it in tug-of-war for the achievements, alright?"
Sure, they can still do that without quitting, but it makes it more annoying as they'd have to wait the full song instead of quitting after two seconds for five songs.
Now, with gamer achievements, this isn't as big of a deal as it is in other (online) games since having gamer points don't affect your gameplay in any way, so it wouldn't surprise me if a patch came out to fix it, but I'm guessing that's the main reason HMX coded it as is.
