I'm hoping EA or Harmonix or MTV or anybody can give me a good reason not to return this $180 pile of wires to the place of purchase.
The guitar stopped working after a measley 4 hours of play. And I'm seeing that the replacements aren't any better.
Please, give me a good reason...are there any?

Do you like the game? If you do, then I'd just return it to the store, but the problem is the hardware is shotty as you can tell.
If you get some sturdy instruments (I have two special edition boxes, one guitar works really nicely, the other is crap, and the two drums work great.) I think you'll have a much better time.
I'd say there is a good 45% change something will be mucked up and you'll be asking for a new whatever from support.
Do you want to deal with it? Its your investment, I like the game enough to keep it and deal with the crap, and play it with my friends on campus.
If you don't have the patience, energy, or resources involved with a *possible* messy process, then take it back. Its really up to what you'd prefer.

If you like it, get a replacement. If you honestly didn't enjoy playing those 4 hours that you did get to play, send it back. Pretty damn simple if you ask me man.

I was pretty surprised / sad /annoyed when my bass pedal broke and I'm worried it'll break again..... but as long as EA will replace their product, then I will keep getting it replaced because it's a totally awesome game that I can't get bored with. With that much hardware in the box, it's not surprising that early-adopters are encountering problem.. but so what if EA is willing to replace it. My only worried would be what will happen after the 60-day warranty is up.

I used duct tape after another person posted it. Works great. Got a 746 note streak on Hard on Gimme Shelter. Thats the highest I ever got on any song on any instrument and on a new difficulty to me. It also doesn't void your warranty because you are putting tape on the outside.

The replacements are free, they are not $125. It is 2-day Air delivery with Express and they only charge you the $125 for handling IF YOU DON'T RETURN IT WITHIN THE 28-DAY LIMIT.

Finally to the original poster, you bought it, its your money. If you want to return it, go ahead, its your loss/gain. Your choice.

Since I like the game I decided to go the warranty route and get a replacement guitar controller.
The replacement just arrived a few minutes ago. Guess what...the POS guitar controller is doing the same thing straight outta the box! What good is a great guitar game without a guitar controller? I'm taking this crap back to the place I purchased it.
My suggestion to anyone else that has bought this game and is having the same problems...don't wast your time with the warranty process, just return the game and wait for this company to get its act together with a quality product before re-purchasing.
Harmonix/MTV Games/EA,
You've lost me as a customer and earned my critisism of this product.
