View Full Version : The Ten Frets on the Guitars

I was just thinking - how do you guys think the ten frets work? I think I've read in interviews that you use the bottom five like normal for most the song but only use the higher frets in the solo section?
I think it would be better if you could use them interchangeably so you could do some wicked tapping :D . Ie. fretting on the lower five buttons and tapping with your right hand on the higher set.
I've seen the two vids and it seems like they might be interchangeable, because I didn't notice the guitar notes changing at all (as they might to signal you if you HAD to use either the lower or higher set of frets for a given section).
Either way, I'm loving the addition of the extra frets and I think it will really add to the realism when you're wailing away on a killer solo high up on the neck

In the mississippi queen video, I DID notice the notes changing a couple of times. They went from their current rectangle shape to the more circular ones we're used too. I think..
I love them too. I think the extra frets will be an awesome adition and help make guitar a more fresh experience.

I've been waiting for those frets since the first time I played guitar hero, it was the first thing that popped in my mind as an improvement. From what I've read, it seems that they work exactly like normal, but during "solos" if you mess up on a hammer on/pull off, then it doesn't matter, and you won't need to strum again. Which is great, it'll make it a lot more fun, but people will probably whine about it making it easier... eh.

What about sections with the same note repeated? I'm here thinking it would work just like GH2, otherwise you could kind of just mash the buttons and get alot of notes because you won't have to worry about re-strumming if you mess up.

Well, you'd probably fail the song if you did that. You'd still loose the crowd for missing notes, but you'd be able to keep going on your hammer on/pull off streak.

I read that they are for Hammer ons and pull offs only, and there is no strumming neccisary at all for them.

According to Daniel in the IGN video, you can use those buttons on the lower end through ALL sections, not just solo. If you want to one-hand and not strum at all for the entire career, you can. I kinda wish it was just activated for the solo part though, and the HUD gave you a indiciation of solo coming up, or something like that.
I guess for those who want to two-hand tap, this is a perfect solution

Really? I thought that you could use the lower and upper through all sections, but through solo sections was the only time the lower could be used without strumming, otherwise it worked just like the ones higher on the neck
EDIT: When I say higher I mean closer to the top, and when I say lower I mean closer to where you strum.

I just rewatched the video and now I'm a bit confused. You may be right. If that's the case, during the solo you might be able to use the upper buttons without strumming as well?
Why can't this game be out tomorrow!

No, this is how I understand it, the upper buttons will work like they always have in GH, you must strum except in HO/PO. The lower ones work the same normally, except during solos where you dont need to strum. The upper ones can also be in solos but you may have to strums at parts.
Of course I could completely be misunderstanding all of this
