When I try to use the GHIII controller it continues to show up as a microphone. I've read online that it isn't compatible and I'm not happy. Everything I had read prior to buying it indicated they would be and it appears they are for Xbox360 but I have a PS3. Also, in reverse the Rock Band controller won't work for GHIII which really sucks.

Don't they realize that the benefit of making controllers cross functional is selling additional software and updates which is where the money is.

Not sure what to do now.

The Les Paul for the PS3 DOES NOT work in its current state and you CANNOT use it.

Sorry, I also own a PS3 and had the same problem. You might want to wait it out, or just sell the damn thing like I did, as I don't really care for GH3.

Sorry for the bad news, mate.

Geez, does anyone else feel a bit swindled?

I remember reading about the guitar controller compatibility on the rockband site before the game came out. It's one of the reasons I bought GH3 in the first place. Anyone remember reading this?

"Harmonix has an open platform philosophy and their games will be compatible with third-party controllers that conform to the various platform controller standards."

This explains why my email to "info@harmonixmusic.com" for clarification on guitar controllers was totally ignored.

Blame it on activision and neversoft not Harmonix. Obviously they didn't conform to certain standards for the ps3 controller.

From what i hear, the GH3 controller for the Xbox 360 seems to work just fine with rockband on that system.

it's strange that activision and neversoft would "conform to certain standards" for the xbox 360 platform, but not the PS3 platform. I've gotten a lot of flak from xbox 360 people over my decision to go with a PS3. This doesn't help things at all.

Actually, let's see here. The xbox 360 GH2 controller works fine with GH3. Also, both of these controllers work fine with Rockband. Things don't happen in software and hardware by "chance" (it's finite automata, basic computer science here ppl). The fact that things work flawlessly on the xbox means that it was designed that way.

In either case, software products tend to undergo a lot of testing during their development lifecycle. How is it that this software anomaly (aka "bug") was not discovered or disclosed until after product release? I can probably answer that myself. $$$. If you have to choose between the loss of profit or being honest with your customers, choose the money. Am I right?

I can only hope that this compatibility issue will be fixed in software.

It'll be a good thing when this goes through.

I don't get as to why Activision/Red Octane are bothering since the Xbox 360 GH controllers already work with RB.

Why hold back for the PS3? I sure hope Sony just spanks them.

What I'm worried about as an Xbox 360 owner is that Activision/Red Octane may somehow block out the GH controllers with an eventual firmware update and we not know it until it is too late. Sure it sounds "conspiracy theory"-like but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened.
