View Full Version : No Country for Old Men? Really?
Am I the only one here who is confused about this movie?
I just got done watching it. Thankfully it was free on demand, but seriously. Does this movie even make sense?
The main character and his wife dies.
The murderer survives, and the cop retires? (I guess?).
Anyone wanna attempt to clear this up for me?

Whoa whoa whoa, watch for spoilers there, m00p.
As for a message, "don't steal drug money" comes to mind :)

Sure. The villain is awesome. I like a movie where the bad guys win. Don't steal drug money from people trained to kill people

It was originally a novel, which I haven't read.
Really, I just think the writer of the book was trying to get away from the whole "happily ever after" ending, to show that there isn't always a peaceful ending, no matter how much you struggle (hence the movie itself).
Apparently, the book isn't as old as I thought.

The movie is completely faithful to the book, literally word for word. Both are amazing.
I understand the confusion, but as people said, McCarthy was trying to get away from the whole "happily ever after" thing. As to the ending....watch the movie another time or two. I thought the ending was absolutely amazing after I went through it a few times.
I need to watch it again, haven't popped it in in months

Donnie Darko is awesome too...do I just have really bad taste in movies? (i think the answer is yes, seeing as I have SNL's best of Will Ferrell DVD on my desk right now)

I had to watch it twice to get what was going on, but it is by far one of my favorite movies. I still don't get the beginning though with the bad guy, I thought it was a flashback, but I dunno.... it really does take a two or three watches to understand where it is going.
