View Full Version : So are ALL the original guitars bad or only some?

Considering all of the guitars are manufactured from the same mold and made the same. Does that mean it's only a matter of time that all of the first generation of guitars are defective or will become defective after a little while? Sounds to me like about 90% of the guitars have been bad.
I've been playing with my GH3 controller ever since i heard about the RB guitars being bad so that i can avoid having to send it in for a while. I've just been using it as the bass guitar for when friends come over.
Will my controller end up becoming defective as well?

If 90% of the guitars were bad, 90% of the threads on this forum would be about bad guitars....
Also the guitar is more than just one molded part. It's got like circuits and other parts inside and junk. I'm willing to bet if everyone who owned one took apart their guitar and took pictures we'd see 2, 3, or 4 different revisions flying around.
The madness is that you'll likely never be sure that you have the best revision or that your guitar is substandard without you realizing it (until you try a friend's guitar that is the best).
Personally mine has a part rattling about inside so I'm going to open 'er up and see what's what.

The tilt sensor rattles, and it's by design. sounds like little particles if you shake it.

They changed the design of the second generation guitars, so that says me to that they faulted the design. (If the design was okay, they probably wouldn't pay to have the plastics mold and assembly retooled.)
Just one change was to replace the "open reed" contacts on the strum bar with sealed switches to prevent dust stopping your guitar from working. (That's why they tell you to blast yours with compressed air and try it before you send it back.)

My new guitar works with magnets, no switches what-so-ever.

Yeap, all broke... I'd estimate 30-60% are screwed.
Good luck with EA too!

That seems like a deceptive practice to me. The "open reed" contact design is bad, and the guitar will eventually fail. So EA's "air blast" suggestion is just putting off the inevitable. Is that in order to make it past the warranty period? I really don't want to believe that, but to me, if you can blast a poorly-functioning guitar with air and it works, it's just confirmation that it's one of the bad ones and you should request a replacement. Because eventually, you will, but on your dollar, not EA's.
If it wasn't for this "air blast" thing, I'd completely buy into their stated "100% customer satisfaction" PR line. But this raises doubts.
