I just found that article. I'm surprised that the New York Times delved into that topic and interviewed those bands. It's a very long article, however, I read the whole thing and I believe it's very well-written. Though there are some strange inaccuracies (Earth is a minimalist post-grunge band? What the flying ****?), it's still overall a great article and a good read. I know that there are some Sunn O))) fans here and definitely some BORIS fans, as well. Even if you aren't either, I recommend reading this. It might make you want to check them out.

Ancient article!
I read it ages ago when O'Malley posted it on his blog. That's a pretty great arts blog, if slightly slanted towards metal. Sometimes the New York Times are so desperate to be hip that it hurts.

Yeah, it is quite old. However, I found it really interesting, even if it was written when Pink was released.

I found Pink totally boring myself, it was skewed and illogically placed between the band's styles.
The article itself is pretty good though, I agree.

It was fairly good. Smile definitely beats it out, though. The untitled final track on the album is mindblowing.

I prefer when they just stick to their more experimental stuff in general, which is what annoyed me about Pink. I never really got into Boris because of that.

I like both of their sides. I think it's really great when a band can be so versatile.
Have you listened to Altar? You probably have, but if you haven't, I think you'd enjoy it.

I heard bits, but I was going off Drone when I got it so I never really gave it a chance.

I could see them drawing the Post-Grunge comparison in an albeit ridiculous way because they had Cobain do Vox on one of their demos.

Yeah, that's the only thing I thought of that could possibly influence that. However, they are possibly the farthest thing from post-grunge.
