That's right. Schmeankman wants in to this whole "vinyl" craze you kids are so rampant about. I may or may not be able to obtain the player thingy from my grandma, and I have speakers and everything that one might need to accesorize it, but I still Have a few questions:

How much is the average vinyl record?

Are Boston punk band the only ones who still release albums on vinyl?

Is the sound quality/experience really that much better?

What is the avaliblity of vinyl/where do you get it?

FYE sells vinyl.

It's hawt.

I need a player, though. My dad had a turntable, but the speakers he used for it are broken and I can't find the power cord.

EDIT: Radiohead has some stuff on vinyl. You also might wanna look around where you live for places that might sell them. And eBay can always be your friend.

My FYE went out of buisness and now it's an empty building with a sign telling people to go to Streetside Records...

Hawt, eh? That's nice.

for vinyl and speakers, check out your local thrift stores/resale shops/garage and yard sales (yes, even Goodwill and Salvation Army)

vinyl at these places are usually ranges from $0.10 to $5.00

or at record stores (can be very high)

ebay/amazon (again, expensive)

also, at Best Buy you can buy Chinese Democracy on vinyl and a Police Greatest Hits also

I can only answer #3

YES YES YES YES YES. My dad showed me his old Jimi Hendrix collection on Vinyl and then showed me it on CD... Holy crap did the CD version pale in comparison.

Also if you're into Psychadelic music that even adds to the experience.

How much is the average vinyl record?:

Really depends on what album it is. For example, an Abbey Road vinyl on Amazon is 6.99, but Revolver is 24.96.

Are Boston punk bands the only ones who still release albums on vinyl?:

Not that much vinyl is released anymore. Most of the time it's released as a vinyl box set, w/e. The latest vinyl I can find is by a band called Letal Weapon, who released one on Feb 4th, 2009.

Is the sound quality that much better?:

I've heard from alot of people that they prefer vinyl. But It's not "stated as fact" that Vinyl is better than say a CD or a Cassette. It's all about opinion.

What is the avaliblity of vinyl/where do you get it?:

Music stores or Ebay have them.

Analog > Digital.

That's why when I sit down to listen to Evil Empire, I'll dig out my brothers old cassette, as opposed to the CD (which I bought so I could put it on my iPod)

Also, bands are starting to release albums on vinyl in some quantity, if only for the nostalgia. Chinese Democracy, Death Magnetic, two of the formats of the Ten re-release are on vinyl, etc. I'd say, you're gonna have options coming up pretty soon.

$0.10? Whoa nelly. My parents had a huge vinyl collection (100s) but our basement flooded so now I only have 3 (The Cars, Rolling Stones, and Ramones)

I totally heart psychadelic.

No problem.

If you can find a cheap turntable on Ebay or something, I say go for it. If you want a good one it'll cost you around 100-150$ though.

I KNOW!!! Renrock is getting it from sa_nick somehow, and I'm super jealous. But I wouldn't be able to use it anyway, because my dad's vinyl player has been broken for years. Ahh, but such is life.
