View Full Version : The Rock Band commercials suck

Honestly, I think the RB commercials are not helping sales for the game.

The first commercial I saw showed part of the opening cinematic for the game; it's flashy and cool, but you don't really see any gameplay and it tells you nothing about the game.

The recent string of commercials have shown 'normal' people in band-ish situations. They're kind-of funny, I guess, but they still don't show any gameplay.

I'm convinced that Rock Band's sales would skyrocket if they chose to show a bit of gameplay in their commercials. I work in retail, and people constantly come in and ask for Guitar Hero 3 (which is already sold out). I recommend Rock Band to them. which we have several copies of, and most people seem unaware of it's existance OR have heard of it, but don't know what it's all about. This seems weird to me, especially sincce MTV supposedly game RB an advertising campaign worth roughly $30M...

Haha, well clearly they don't need them. I didn't buy Rock Band because I saw some commercial for it on tv, infact I hardly ever watch tv anymore but clearly that isn't the point but yeah they should do something different, though I've only seen one Rock Band commercial so I can't compare this to anything.

what would the gameplay reveal about the game though? the gameplay is just a bunch of colored rectangles haha.. the commercials give you more of that feel of what comes along with the video game, like your friends debating who's going to play what instrument, everybody argueing about the band name, etc.. i think the commercials do their job better because it lets everybody see more than the gameplay, but the feeling that comes along with you and 3 friends actually "creating" your own band

Actually a good commercial would be a group of people rocking out live on stage in front of a huge crowd while everybody is screaming and having a blast, then it cuts to a garage and you realize they are just playing the game inside their home. :p

So...the reverse of the GH2 commercial, then? Preferably with a better song than "You Really Got Me"?

I like the commercials. You can't really show much of the game with a commercial, anyway--even the cool new Ratchet & Clank commercials that use in-game assets don't really tell you what the gameplay is.

The Rock Band commercials are meant to convey the Rock Band attitude--get people wondering about it and asking about it. If they showed gameplay, the game would be confused with the GH3 commercials and people would remember the wrong product.

"Hey, can I get that Guitar Hero game? Okay...so this is the one where you can play drums, too, right?"

People aren't buying RB because IT'S SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE.

Guess the comercials really hurt sales...

It's sold out because of the limited quantities. And they need to show people this is like GH but with drums and vocals and a full band multiplayer experience. And so misinformed people dont think this is a knock off they should state it's from the creators of the first two GH games, but i dont know if Activition would allow it, even if it's true.

The commercials are not hurting sales. End of story.
