View Full Version : Does The Music You Listen To Depend On Your Mood?

So does the music you listen to sometimes depend on your mood. Like for example if your depressed you listen to NIRVANA, Soundgarden or maybe AIC. If you're pissed off you listen to Rage, Metallica or maybe Death Metal. Or is your taste always the same? Are you a straight metal head? Or maybe you love to listen to Classic Rock all the time? Or maybe you listen to a wide range of music and sometimes the music you listen to depends on your mood. Discuss!

I do have a tendency to gravitate towards grunge when I'm feeling down, and thrash when I'm wound up or pissed off. My mood is a factor, but most of the time I just try to keep a balanced rotation in what I listen to.

Sometimes, when I'm angry/pissed off I listen to Within Temptation 'cause Sharon's voice is just that soothing; it calms me down. Other times I just listen to certain songs 'cause I feel like it, yo.

yes... i have three play lists...
angry
mellow
and every day.
everyday is comprised of just about anything that i really like a lot.
mellow is stuff i listen to when im bummed.
angry is pretty much fastest loudest and angriest music i have.

Sometimes I think my mood changes based on the music I listen to.

Definitely based on my mood. If I'm having a really bad day, I tend to stick to some of the heavier stuff (Metallica, Linkin Park, Judas Priest, A7X). If I'm in a really good mood, probably go with something fast paced and a little lighter (Boston, Bang Camaro, Rush, Green Day). Any other time, I just throw it on shuffle and go where the music takes me.

Interesting. With me I sometimes like to listen to all kinds of music. But if I was really depressed I'd probably put some grunge on.

Interesting. I'd probably be listening to grunge if I was that depressed.

You're gonna be trying to figure out girls for a looooong time. I'm still trying to figure them out. This much is true. If they say everything is all right everything is wrong. If they say you don't have to do something you definitely do. And if they say we have to talk....Run to the hills run for your lives!!!!!!!

When I'm pissed I strive to listen to softer music like Boston and Journey. Then I work my way up to Rush and Deep Purple, than I'm back to normal with whatever.

Well, obviously.
I can't listen to Nine Inch Nail's sad sad songs much today since I don't have anything to be crying about, etc.

When I had a bad day at school, typically it's Senses Fail on the way home
When it's a good day or Friday? The Who, baby!
But when I'm feeling sad I listen to Real Good Looking Boy

When I'm feeling like I'm on top of the world, I'll put on those funky riffs of RHCP. :)

Not really on my mood, in the sense that if I'm happy I listen to a certain band or genre. More in the sense that sometimes I'm in the mood to listen to a certain band or genre.

Happy: Doesn't effect my music tastes, listen to anything when I'm happy.
Sad: Either songs I find really uplifting or Soundgarden/Alice in Chains
Angry: Thrash, particularly Kreator & Megadeth
Intoxicated/high: Doom/Stoner Metal & Psychedelic rock
Most of the time I listen to The Who, Black Sabbath, Opeth, Deep Purple and Rush.

In the words of Roger Daltrey, "let the music create the mood".
