View Full Version : Should I have to be yelling THIS loud?

To activate overdrive on the vocals i have to yell at the top of my lungs to activate it, and it's still usually not enough. I raised the sensitivity and it helped but if i raise it too much i start having problems and my pitch cursor starts to jitter all over the place. When i tried the head set i didn't have this problem. It would detect my voice much easier and i didn't have to yell my throat hoarse to activate overdrive. Could my mic be defective? It doesn't seem to be as responsive as when i first got it... but it could just be my imagination cause of all the other problems.

No, you shouldn't have to yell loud at all. Try hitting it instead, it'll probably be easier.

Yeah, I find mine doesn't trigger unless I give a sharp sound or "drag out" the noise I'm making, increasing the volume as I go.
Sometimes it sounds natural, but mostly it sounds stupid.

For me my mom said she could hear me from the washing machines in our apartment. It's on the side of our apartment. So i had to yell loud enough from my voice to go out the window and over the side of the building and back to the washing machine room to activate it. Hmm...
Is there any way to activate it using the sixaxis? The game tells you you cant but it saying "no matter how hard you try" almost hints at a secret way of doing it. I tried shaking it to see if the sensor would activate it but no luck.

Try double tapping the top of the microphone. That works for me.

If you increase the microphone sensitivity (hold Y and then hit left or right) it gets pretty easy to trigger.

Yeah - I have to keep the sensitivity almost all the way down to get it to pick up properly - otherwise the arrow goes crazy and buries itself at the top even when I'm not singing, but you have to bang on the mic really hard to get it to activate Overdrive - i don't even bother trying to say something into it any more - it never works.

I don't have problems. Project your voice as if you were performing in a play. If you can't feel it in your nose, you aren't singing with good technique.

Try blowing into the mic. Though I don't have the game yet, I know that makes some pretty loud noises through the mic, and not so much otherwise.

That does not Rock.

I do either tapping or go up in pitch a little bit. For some reason if i'm in the same range as the singing part, the mic doesn't register, unless I up the volume by A LOT

I'll have to try that. I only single-tapped at the demo, and it didn't work... I guess it requires a sustained loud noise that a single tap won't provide.

That's weird, because when I was singing, I actually found that if I just held a singing note past its cutoff point, it would rollover into the "trigger" space and set off Overdrive.

I know what you mean. The way I activate it is to yell "WHOO!" in an inward high pitch voice, easiest way.

Indeed. I did that on my first few tries but it never registers. My mic sensitivity is close to max too. Maybe because i'm female and my voice is too soft?

What system are people having problems on? On my 360 we have no problem activating Overdrive for the singer. My wife tends to just hold the last note when going into the Overdrive bar and it activates immediatly, even if she's singing softly.

Would it be due to systems? I hope not! i have ps3.

The easiest way to activate overdrive with vocals is to do the old Vince Neil "Let's see some hands up TONIGHT!" line. Works like a champ every time! :D

I tapped it once and it didnt work, i'll have to try double tap. I have been messing with it and i noticed that if you say a lot, even not so loud, it will activate. Also holding a not will work too. But there are times when the trigger is very small and there is no note to hold and not much time to say anything so i have to yell pretty loud. If the double tap works i can lower my sensitivity cause it's screwing with it. Sometimes my arrow will start to yitter. I have to exit and them come back to get it to work right again. At least i hope its the sensitivity and not a defective mic...

i think it has more to do with when you yell into the mic. make sure you start the yell when your already in the overdrive section, and stop before your out of it. its harder to do it in the shorter sections, but in really long sections ive activated it by almost whispering.

The one I have the most luck triggering while staying consistent with the tone of the song is Creep. Everything else seems to require me going "out of character" for the song in order to get the trigger to go consistently.

This is what my friends and I do, works every time.

I've always activated OD by using my index and middle fingers tapping alternately on the globe about 6 or so times real fast.
GF who's now done more singing than I manages to activate OD as the game intended but she's pretty loud.

We did a 4 part song with a song finisher. The instruments all hit their finisher notes but we still recieved no bonus. tried at again and there was no "finisher" note for the singer (we assumed this is what we missed somehow. I can't find anything anywhere on this, so I assume I am missing something.

It's not in the manual as far as I know but it's probably in the singer tutorials. It took me a while to figure it out myself.
The "finisher note" for the singer during the "big rock ending" is actually pretty much any registered singing at any time during the "big rock ending." Once your singer icon lights up, you don't need to do any more singing since you've satisfied the game that the big rock ending is done by the singer.

Yup.
But I still like to yell like a moron during the Big Finish.
Stuff like:
"Yeah, it's the Big Rock Ending and we're wailing away but don't forget to break out and hit your final notes which are coming...NOW!"
