BBC 4 have a season on the history of American folk, it's very good, so go check all the videos out on iPlayer. I've only watched the folk revival episode so far, but it was great, archive footage of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul and Mary.

The website has lots of information, but I doubt 'Muricans can view it :(
