will it still be enjoyable as a standalone game if i never played the PC games? I want to get this, but not if i'm going to be totally confused and lost.

Its a completely separate storyline with a different main character.

Though, I highly recommend you play the first one! xD

I don't even own a MS computer, and i don't think they ever released FEAR on OSX.

i was under the impression that the console ports were quite different, and of lower quality, than their PC counterparts.

I never played it on PC, so I wouldn't know - but its technically the same thing (minus the controls)
