I know it's been said many times already that the Strat doesn't work in GH3, but anyone think to check it on GH2? I would think since HMX made GH2 and made the specs on the Strat that *maybe* it would work?
Maybe?

I've heard that it doesn't but I haven't actually tried it yet. If that's the case I'm curious if anyone knows the reason for that? It seems that Harmonix should know how to do it... is it a legal thing?

It would take a 2 second patch to fix it, but it's not Harmonix's call, It's guitar hero's.

Next time you load Guitar Hero III, take a look at the legal text on the load screen. The last line says you agree not to use any guitars not provided by Activision.
This is them being jerks. Doubly so because Red Octane made their name by making unauthorized third-party peripherals.
HMX made the Stat to match the standard that Red Octane originally fought in court to maintain. (Remember their lawsuit against Ant Commandos (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156102)?)
It's up to Red Octane to realize that they have nothing to lose if they open up the game to the Strat. (I believe that people who buy Rock Band first and like it would be likely to pick up a software-only version of GH2 or 3 if the Strat were supported.)

Put it this way - I'm not buying another Les Paul or Xploder controller just to play GH2 or 3 co-op with my wife. I'm interested in playing the games, but not for the cost of yet another peripheral. In fact when the stand-alone strats come out I'd be tempted to buy another and sell my Les Paul, I like it a LOT more as a peripheral personally. I would have already bought GH2 if I didn't have to buy another controller to play co-op. So the theory is at least sound, as some folks are already thinking that.

Just to clarify it's RedOctane and they have always owned the rights. Harmonix owns a majority of the tech and code.
