My lovely wife (with such good intentions) came home last week with a big box that said Rock Band. I was so excited. Until of course she said I can't open it until Christmas. This is fine I guess I have COD4 to keep me busy for a while.
My question is, should I go ahead and send out the request for a new guitar now? The box has a born on date of Oct. 16th. I'm pretty sure after one day of playing with the guitar it's goin to have the same strumming symptons that everyone else is having. Hopefully by the time Christmas gets here the new guitar will be here.
Any suggestions?

I'm in a similar dilemna, as my guitar is still working after about 8-10 hours of use. I'm probably going to have more time to play around the holidays, and would hate to have it malfunction when there's a full 4 member band in the house. I'm thinking of just asking for my replacement now, and hope it shows up by Christmas.
I think considering the track record of malfunctions, you're better off being safe and ordering now, than sorry.

problem is that you have to send the old guitar back so what I would do is have her open up the box get out the guitar and play like fof or gz on your computer untill it breaks, then request a new one, other wise they will proably charge for it. should only take 6 hours of gameplay to break it and thats if your really gental with it.
but I guess its your problem if she dosent want you opening it to get the guitar out then you are just going to wait it out and then wait for a replacement which could take a while because if you open it at cristmas then its cristmas break and they proabley wont ship it for a while. one last thing if its a 360 the x-plore and les paul guitars both work with it, if its a ps3 tuff luck.
thank god I have a 360.
point is no matter what if want to request a new one your going to have to open that box. either to send the one in the box back when your new one gets there, or to break it and request a new one so that when they get it wont work perfectly fine, which means that it wasnt broken and didnt need to be replace under the warrenty. but I do know that all of them need to be replace but under terms of the 60 day warrenty its for equipment failer not to just replace a working guitar.
well have fun with your guitar problems.

I figured i have a 30 day window in which to send the old guitar back. So maybe if I wait until the 10th of December that should give me at least a week after Christmas to send it. I'm sure by that time the original guitar would have kicked the bucket.

Yes, you should request it now. It will probably take you several weeks to get it if you order the 2 day express option, that is unless you live very close to the distrubution center or your name is drawn out of the bucket EA staff use to determine whos order to process next.
Also, remember it's the holidays and EA is impacted heavily by defective equipment orders. EA is a small organization so they don't have the manpower to process multiple orders at once.

I say no. Despite the likely high numbers, the failure rate isn't 100%, and it doesn't really make sense to me for people to start sending back functional guitars out of fear that they might break, potentially slowing down replacements for people who actually have broken guitars.

Yeah, definitely wait at least until close to Christmas. Replacements that are ordered now are actually being sent out fairly quickly, so you would be in danger of exceeding the 28 days or whatever you have to return it.

We only have a 28 day warranty on the replacements??

Just to clarify, the 28-day limit is the amount of time you have to return the faulty peripheral once you request a replacement. The warranty to cover the peripherals and game is 60-days as outlined in the Warranty section at the back of the manual.

After reading other similar threads, and having one of the "still working" strats, I've decided to wait on ordering the replacement. I'm convinced that if it turns out to be a complete manufacturers defect, EA will have no choice but to extend the warranty or issue a recall. There's always the threads about fixing your strat to fall back on if stranded w/o a guitar at the holidays. I'm hoping that if mine breaks in the next 51 days, that the newer versions will have the kinks worked out. Plus it gives them time to deal with the glut of other replacements from Release Day.
