I'm new to the XBox 360 - I bought it just for Rock Band, so I'm still learning my way around.
Last night, I tried audio chat for the first time. The wired headset that came with the console works fine when plugged to a wireless 360 controller, both inside the game and outside the game.
But when I plug the headset to the guitar or the drums using either of the two adapter cables that came with Rock Band, I can hear my friend but he can't hear me when we're chatting in the game, or outside the game straight through the Dashboard.
To debug, I tried connecting the headset to the controller through the adapter cables, and the same problem is observed in that case - I can hear my friend, but he can't hear me.
It LOOKS like a problem with the adapter cables, but it seems really unlikely that both of them would be defective.
Anybody else had a similar problem? Any debug suggestions?
