Solo buttons not working correctly?

This is a great game and I'm doing better than I ever did at GH on Expert, but my solos are still lacking. With the Strat and the solo buttons, I thought this would improve. It hasn't. I was under the impression that during solos, you could use the solo buttons and not have to strum. This is not the case for me at least. The buttons are registering, as in they are lighting up, but I have to strum to produce a note. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue or is my guitar broken.

I'm not sure but I think the solo buttons only work without strumming for Big Rock Endings.

Solo buttons can be used in the SOLO sections ONLY (and big rock endings) without having to strum. There are a couple gotchas though.

1) If a note repeats, eg two Y notes in a row, you have to lift your finger off yellow and tap again, or STRUM the second yellow.
2) While strumming isn't ncecessary when notes are changing, timing is! If you are off on your timing (RB is much less forgiving than GH) then the not will not register.

Thats really wierd because I know that my solos work by tapping the solo buttons. Remember, you MUST tap it. That means that if there are two notes you MUST tap twice...not just hold it like you would strumming.

On another note, I find it REALLY hard to use those buttons when chords come up...try doing the Dead on Arrival solo on expert with the tapping, I can never get all those chords.
