View Full Version : Is the Les Paul cheating in RB?

I was just wondering how well it works in RB and if people using it would have an advantage over people using the strat in online matches and leaderboards. Personally, i prefer the strat but I could see how the strum bar on the les paul could work in their favor. I know everyone could get a les paul but thats not the point, i was just wondering what you think.

I use the Les Paul for RB as my strum is FUBAR on the strat. Works fine. How it would be considered cheating escapes me as it actually makes the solos more difficult (since you have to strum and all). :)

If you have played a lot of GH then you might think it was a little easier to do things on the old controllers. Personally, although I love tapping the solos I also find it harder than just strumming it most of the time.

It looks like most of the top Scorehero folks right now are using the Les Paul. But as people get used to the solo buttons on the Strat, I will be curious to see if people turn that into an advantage.

I'm preferring the Les Paul in general, although I'm starting to imagine how some of the licks in Green Grass & High Tides on expert could really benefit from the solo frets.
But as a previous poster said... the advantage right now lies in familiarity and will be gone within a few weeks and it'll just be a matter of taste.

Channeling the hyperspeed protesters - because it's not playing the game as it was intended to be played!!!!

Maybe if the Startocaster wasn't BROKEN, I'd use it!

I couldnt do the last four/five solos in Long Time until I did them with strat's solo buttons.

My personal axe will continue to be the LP. The strat buttons and strum are just not responsive/fast enough for me on expert. (On the Strat, duh.)

Personally, I prefer the les Paul over the Stratocaster because I'm used to it, it's wireless, and when i strum on the Stratocaster, I don't have a definite feeling of where the note is actually strummed, and it feels weird because of that...
so, uh... Les Paul is my choice favorite

I find that the fret buttons are a lot easier to hit than the strat because sometimes you won't know what you're hitting on the strat and the les paul you almost can always tell where your fingers are at. but i don't think its at all cheating because anyone can use whatever guitar they like and as far as the solos go you can rack up way more points on the strat because you don't have to strum so it sort of evens it out.

It's not a level playing field. I mean they are certainly different controllers, but I don't feel either is better than the other aside from which one you've grown used to.
As far as fun goes, the Stratocaster feels like cheating since I have a blast on it and the Les Paul just doesn't do it for me any more. I don't care if my score goes down or sideways as long as my fun goes up and my feeling of playing an actual guitar does too. And the Strat most definately delivers :D

I find the the fret buttons are easier for me to hit on the strat but thats just me. I do like the strum bar on the SG better though. I found this thread http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41203
So I went ahead and did the mod..not to hard and I am VERY pleased with the results :D

I feel like it's easier to get 'lost' on the strat & it's easier to feel where the buttons are on the les paul. But the solo frets can be a life saver on some songs in Expert. Moot for me now since my strum bar seems to be going out on my strat...

The Les Paul feels so flimsy (with the detachable neck you know?) I have to tilt it SEVERAL times to activate overdrive and when I finally get it, it takes a few seconds to actually activate. Half the time it just activates by itself. :o
And the buttons are so fat. They JUT out from the neck.
The RB controller is light but solid and I love the fret buttons (both sets.)

i say it is harder to use the les paul because the strait has the solo buttons which make rockband solos easier to play but if you are good enough with hammer ons and pull offs both controllors are about the same

hmm a tough debate. I really like the strat, it feels more natural and the solo buttons make expert solos so much easier (such as green grass and high tides, which I have yet to beat with my GH controller...), however my strat strum bar died after the first day of play whereas the only problems I have with my GH controllers is a sticky button on one. from a. I think overall the GH buttons are easier to find and since it is a more familiar feel I get higher scores with it, but the strat is more fun and makes impossible expert solos manageable.
In conclusion:
GH controller = higher scores on most songs for most people who have GH
Strat controller= more fun, better feel, and easier expert solos
