Yes, "Tom Sawyer," "Won't Get Fooled Again," "Green Grass & High Tides", etc. are all very, very good songs. Yes, they're amazingly difficult to play and yes, you have proven you are a Stud Muffin by banging these monsters out on Expert. That's very nice for you. Now can we please play something else..?
I've been doing vocals online last night and this morning and every session is pretty much the same; the group just picks the highest tier stuff over and over. It's getting a bit insane (and blowing out my vocal chords trying to repeatedly do Geddy Lee). Variety would be nice...
One group last night had the right idea... band members take turns picking what songs they want to play, guitarist, then drummer, then vocals, then bass (left to right on the select screen). Everybody gets to pick something. ...of course, when I said "Let's do Sabotage!" and everybody else went "NO, we're doing The Who", the concept deviated from the path of win and journeyed forth into fail... but it's a good idea in theory.
What've been your experiences with song picks online? And how do you avoid doing the same things over and over with new groups?

If I still had Gold I'd play some songs with you. My favorite song (Blitzkrieg Bop) is ironically the easiest.
When I play with friends though we kind of just debate. Usually it's vocal/bass vs. guitar/drums. Of course we're just in it to glorify our own spot :D
We don't really find ourselves sticking to any one spot. I do a great Geddy Lee, Ramones, Liz Enthusiasm, and Ozzy though. Got a little Deep Purple in me too. If our vocalist (usually me) sucks at it we'll probably avoid it.

I usually play online only with people on my friend list, and we take turns picking songs. And we don't care if someone wants to muddle around on medium or easy while others are hammering out Tom Sawyer on expert.
