View Full Version : Strat Problems with Tilt Sensitivity

I know that many of you are having problems with the strum bar, but is anyone else experiencing problems with the sensitivity of the tilt and overdrive. Mine goes off randomly and when I don't want it to. I know that you can activate it with the button, but mine goes off at random times when I am not tilting the guitar or pressing the button. When I go to tilt the guitar for overdrive it does not work. My Les Paul works fine, but this guitar seems flawed. I think I'll send it in for replacement, but just wanted to find out if anyone else had this issue.
Thanks!

yea, same for me.....sometimes I have to tilt 3-4 times for it to kick in. (but at least the strum works....haha)
seriously, not a huge deal....but yes a possible problem....besides that the little effect window pops up all the time even though i'm not messing w/the effect switch.....minor probs I can deal with for the most part, but if they're offering a replacement and acknowledging the problem, i'd prob opt for 100% functional one.

There is an easy fix! Read halfway down my first post:http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=12220

It seems to require a much longer time to activate than the Guitar Hero guitars, so if you're used to those, just hold it up for longer, and I think you'll find it activates every time.
I know what people mean about it being sensitive... it's not really that it's sensitive, just that it requires much less vertical tilt than the GH ones, so you're probably just holding the guitar tilted too far up (I've noticed it especially when people play sitting down).
As another poster said, there's a fix - open up the guitar and reposition the tilt-o-meter to be at a higher angle (not sure I want to do that one myself).

Mine does that too if I'm sitting down (playing medium just so it can say 76/76 songs). The o/d will go off randomly, but when I WANT to activate it, it won't go. Works fine when I'm standing though. Weird stuff.

I just got my new Strat and so far I really like the replacement, but the tilt is jacked. I have to keep my neck parallel to the ground or the overdrive just goes off whenever I get halfway on the overdrive meter. I don't want to send it back though.

I had the same problem as you all. After five songs on easy, I realized that I had no control over when Overdrive kicked in. I already decided to send it back. I'm surprised "tilt sensor out of whack" wasn't listed as one of the troubleshooting options. Best of luck to y'all in getting things back to functional.

my original guitar was the same as this. it always went off automatically when the overdrive meter hit 1/2 way. my replacement rarely activates by itself, thankfully.

I had the same pronlem. But in my guitar wont hold notes very long or cuts it off right away. I have also had the problem on the down strum with compleating the game with a 99% and almost being boooed of the stage so I am sending the guitar back. I still love the game I cant whate till an 80's version and more girl songs so my doughter can sing more songs she loves the game as well.

I'm having the opposite problem - my overdrive won't go off much at all. I tried working with it some last night while playing on medium collecting BWT stars. If I tilt it beyond straight up and come back, it activates about 90% of the time, but leaving it in my lap and just lifting it up about 90 degrees doesn't work. I have to go to almost 180 clockwise, then back about 90 counter-clockwise to activate, pretty regularly.
I read somewhere that the position of the guitar when it's plugged in could matter, so I tried making sure it was completely horizontal when I plugged it in, and I think I've tried vertical but didn't test it fully last night - may tonight.
I got a replacement because of this and other problems (including rattling noises and a dying strum bar), and the overdrive thing has really gotten to me. I'm not all that stressed on it because the back button is easy enough to reach, but it would be nice to use the tilt function properly more often.

Just received my 2nd replacement. Same problem! The overdrive kicks off seemingly randomly.
Why hasn't HMX posted any information on this issue? Why isn't this an option on the RMA request form?
And before someone tells me to just fix it myself:
1.) I'm not a do-it-yourselfer.
2.) I don't own a hot glue gun.
3.) I paid for fully-functional instruments, not fixer-uppers.
Maybe my next one won't have the same problem. (fingers crossed)

I have had 2 replacements, the tilt has not worked on either. And the strum is still messed up.

Just received my 3rd replacement. Tilt sensor is still screwed up. WTF?!?!?
Can somebody from EA or HMX comment on this problem already? Sheesh!?!?!
