Hi,

I have a Sharp Aquos HDTV and plugged my Wii into it with the red/white/yellow cables. I did the calibration thing to get the instruments in tune with what one sees on the screen but for singing, there is a problem-
as the lyrics run across the top of the screen, they look extremely blurry and next to impossible to see. How can this be fixed?? Will getting Wii component cables fix the issue?

Thanks!

Component cables MIGHT fix it, but its a big might. What size if your tv? the wii is only meant to output in standard definition, at a standard resolution, the blurriness is cuz its getting stretched.

I have a 42'' tv. I had indeed been watching in "stretch" mode such that the tv image takes up the whole screen. I tried to go into the "normal" mode (so that there were vertical bars running down the left and right of the screen) and it helped a bit but the lyrics are still kind of blurry...

It's been a while since I have used my Wii with composite rather than component cables, but can't you use widescreen (16:9) format even with composite video? If so, why not use that instead of "stretch?"

You should definitely go into your Wii settings and make sure that you have those optimized for your television.

There definitely is a widescreen setting, in the Wii menu options and such.

Progressive scan mode will help. You will need component cables for this--then go to the Wii options and set the TV resolution to "HDTV/EDTV". This enables 480p, which means the Wii sends all 480 lines of the image to the TV in each frame. With composite yellow-white-red cables, you only get 480i--the Wii sends the even lines, then the odd lines, etc., and the TV fills in the blanks ("deinterlaces"), which can lead to blurring artifacts on moving objects.

You can get Wii component cables from monoprice.com for cheap--that's what I did.

480p on the Wii isn't going to look nearly as good as 1080p or an Xbox 360 or PS3... but it does look better than 480i. As a bonus, it'll decrease lag too.

Also... if scrolling text is just blurry no matter what, enable "static vocal style" in your Rock Band options. Then the text stays put and the pitch arrow scrolls to the right instead.
