View Full Version : Rock Band not really in HD?

I'm not sure if this is just an issue with myself but I've asked others and they have the same problem where Rock Band does not fully render in the full resolution set on the 360 dashboard.

There is always a black border around the game no matter what resolution is set it to. I've tried 1280x720, 1280x768, 1360x768 and still the border persists. This is on a 360 Pro over VGA on a Westinghouse LTV-32w6. It looks like this.

Here you can see the dashboard at 1360 x 768 with the full screen being rendered.

Here is the opening movie showing the problem. I marked up some places to show you where the game is missing.

While the images only show the opening movie, the entire game is this way, from the menu to the actual gameplay.

Is this a case of the game not really being HD and lacking the appropriate scaling needed to fill in the correct image in the resolution? Or is this just a bug?

I have a JVC 32" 720p LCD and I don't get borders.

There is an "Overscan" option in the Options menu. Does that make the picture show as full screen (this option doesn't change the resolution, it just changes how the image is drawn on the screen). I've noticed on a friends Viewsonic 37" LCD TV (native res 1366x768) that when his 360 is setup at 720p that he gets the black border in games but bumping to 1080i solves that issue for him.

you do know that you can fix that in the configuration screen, right?

I did check the options menu and selected the LCD profile. I see no option for overscan. I'll have to check again in a bit.

Set the 360 to 16x9 thats your problem

Fyi, his 360 is set to 16:9 resolution. You can tell, as the TV is quite clearly a widescreen TV, and that circles are appearing as circles on the dashboard.

I would try that overscan option. Out of curiousity, what Res is your 360 set to? 1080p, 720p, 1080i?

My TV does the same thing and is set to 1080p as is my Xbox 360 Elite -- all via HDMI. My TV is also a Westinghouse TX-42 series.

Any solutions?

Jesus people.

1. Go to the configuration menu.
2. Go to "Manually Set" instead of choosing your TV type
3. Adjust A/V offset if necessary and continue
4. Adjust instrument lag if necessary.
5. When you see the overscan option select it.
