View Full Version : Found the game in Best Buy today...

And was shocked, because I had been to Walmart, Target, and several other stores earlier in the day, and they all had none. Best Buy had a pile of them, at least a dozen (for 360, none for PS3).

So I'm thinking...should I go ahead and buy it now, or should I wait a few weeks for all the hardware "kinks" to be worked out and buy a new one then?

People who already have it, what do you think?

Edit: I have a 360, so obviously that would be the version I would buy :)

The best buy near my office had 4 boxes of PS3 bundles.
Sadly I don't have the disposable cash for a PS3 so I had to let all 4 stay at the store.

But XMas is coming... (hint mom & dad!)

And don't turn this into a stupid console flamewar... I've already decide on the system I want after much, much consideration.

Check the bottom of the box and see when it was made. If it was sometime in October go ahead and pick it up.

Um thanks for the threadjack, but that has nothing to do with what I asked :p

Wasn't 'jacking... Just saying I don't have the console yet.

This means nothing. I have a box marked September 27th, and nothing has gone out on me yet.

Why? There's been plenty of people reporting problems with October bundles.

FWIW, I have a bundle bought on the 20th that I kept unopened - to see how the launch went. Given the number of issues reported (online, on every gaming forum and directly by friends who bought the game), I've decided to return it for a refund. It's just not worth the hassle right now, I'll check back in a few months. Hopefully by then, they'll have sorted this mess, and I'll be able to buy it with a reasonable expectation that everything in the box works - the same expectation I have when I buy an ipod, a DVD player, a TV, a GH bundle or any other piece of consumer electronics.

If you want to play now, don't mind having a relatively high risk of getting defective hardware, and don't mind a replacement process that can turn to take longer than expected, buying it now can be a valid option. Take your chances - or not.

I agree with this. The dates don't seem to make much of a difference, since there are multiple places and people putting together the hardware, and who knows which factory might have had more extra strum bits laying around. There has been some discussion about the September models having a different strum design in them, but people with October models have complained as well.

The fact is, no one knows if it is a high risk or not, because we don't have any official sales figures and failure raets. You can't accurately claim there is a high risk of failure based on the 200 people in this forum who have posts about things breaking. How many thousands were sold with no problems at all? Also, how many others are defective, but those people didn't post on this site? According to those on the site with broken equipment it is a large percentage, but they are biased because they are effected by the equipment failure and want action. Those with working gear are biased because their stuff works and they think the others are blowing things out of proportion. No gaming magazine or news articles have come out yet about failure rates for the game, but usually as soon as a large failure rate or glitch is discovered it is proclaimed quite loudly, so we will have to wait and see what the figures really are.

I guess my answer to you is....Don't expect to see any new hardware designs before Christmas, and if you don't snag the game soon, you won't see any to buy until Januray anyway.

That's fine, I wouldn't mind waiting until January or so if it meant having a much better chance of getting a 100% fully-functioning game and hardware :)
