1964 - While in Miami for a concert, the Beatles meet up with Cassius Clay, who is training in the city for an upcoming bout with Sonny Liston.

1965 - The Kinks were at #1 on the UK singles chart with Tired Of Waiting For You, this was the groups second UK #1.

1966 - The Rolling Stones kicked off an 11-date tour of Australia and New Zealand at the Commemorative Auditorium, Sydney, supported by The Searchers.

1966 - Beach Boy Brian Wilson recorded the future classic song Good Vibrations, which went on to become the band’s third U.S. #1.

1968 - Guitarist Dave Gilmour joins Pink Floyd, as the rest of the band prepare to oust their permanently addled leader, Syd Barrett.

1969 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience appeared at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

1971 - Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band made their New York debut at Unganos.

1973 - Alice Cooper is invited to introduce the legendary comedian George Burns at Burns' Philharmonic Hall performance. In fact Jack Benny was the compare for the evening but Alice did get to meet them both after the show and he presented them with an award (a gold coiled snake) Alice had had one made up for Benny but that had yet to arrive.

1974 - KISS releases their debut album , KISS, with nationwide promotion behind it, including marathon kissing competitions. It will climb to #87 in the US and stay on the charts for 23 weeks.

1977 - AC/DC begin a 25 date UK tour at Edinburgh University, Scotland. The tour will end March 21.

1978 - Winners at this years Grammy Awards include Fleetwood Mac for Album of the year for Rumours, The Eagles for Record of the year for Hotel California and Best pop vocal performance went to The Bee Gees for How Deep Is Your Love.

1980 - In an interview in the Daily Express Bill Wyman states he intends to leave The Rolling Stones in 1982 on the groups 20th anniversary.

1987 - Alice Cooper plays a show at Chicago, IL, UIC Pavilion and he has handpicked the opening act, Guns n' Roses.

1989 - Joan Jett plays 5 sell out shows in New York.

1989 - Born To Be My Baby by Bon Jovi is the #3 single in the US while Duran Duran's All She Wants Is is at #22.

1995 - Former Replacements lead guitarist Bob Stinson dies from a drug overdose. Paul Westerberg later writes the song Good Day about him.

1997 - A new video by Beck called The New Pollution debuts on MTV, with the singer-songwriter dressed as Vince Neil during one part of the video. As homage to Motley Crue’s Live Wire video, Beck is seen in makeup, black leather trousers, and a blonde wig. The song is taken from his Odelay album that was produced by The Dust Brothers, who also produced Vince’s last solo album Carved in Stone.

1998 - Oasis’ Noel Gallagher’s Epiphone Supernova guitar raised £4,600 ($7,820) in aid of Children In Need at a Bonhams auction held in London, England.

2000 - An American court ordered the release of FBI files relating to John Lennon’s interests and activities including his support for the Irish Republican cause and the Workers Revolutionary Party. The British Government told the US that it wanted the files to remain secret. MI5 also had files on Lennon, which they had passed on the FBI during the 70’s.

2004 - A court case accusing Marilyn Manson of sexual assault was dismissed after the two sides reached a settlement. Security guard Joshua Keasler had sued Manson after the star allegedly put his legs around Keasler’s neck and gyrated against him on stage at a gig in Detroit, Michigan in 2001. Manson was ordered to pay $4,000 in fines and costs in the criminal proceedings.

2004 - On his official Web site, Billy Corgan blames the split of the Smashing Pumpkins on guitarist James Iha. “James Iha broke up the Smashing Pumpkins’s, not me,” he writes. “I would have gone on forever, the Smashing Pumpkins were essentially my entire life.”

2005 - Jay-Z, No Doubt, Jurassic 5, Story of the Year, and Camp Freddy with Dave Navarro play Linkin Park’s Music for Relief: Rebuilding South Asia concert at Anaheim, Calif. Proceeds go to benefit tsunami relief.

And thnaks for continued comments in these threads folks, I always like to see what bits of trivia people find interesting for the day. I'll update things tomorrow for today and the 20th.

The Beatles meeting Cassius Clay is awesome, but boy do I have some Ali stories to tell you. My grandfather covered boxing and horse racing for Sports Illustrated back in the day, and became quite good friends with Mr. Ali (I think he even knew him when he was Cassius).
