I mean right now we got these coming up obviously :
December 4th:
Black sabbath : NIB , War pigs , & Sweet leaf (Covers -_-)
December 11th:
Ramones - Rockaway beach
Buzzcocks - Ever fallen in love
The clash - I fought the law
(More covers.... and not good in the 1st place imo lol)
December 18th:
Weezer - Buddy holly
Radiohead - My iron lung
The pretenders - Brass in pocket
I might download a/some sabbath songs (Depending on how good/bad the covers are)
But after that the DLC future is looking pretty damn weak imo :( I don't want any of the songs announced after the sabbath songs yet... like at all
So um.... hopefully they will announce whats coming on Christmas and afterwards soon?
Xbox live points cost money and I don't buy the songs unless they seem fun / sound good (I've skipped a large portion of the DLC so far and plan to skip more large portions of it) :(
(Random : I got bored and downloaded that wolfmother song but ZOMG its guitar is too hard to play on expert lol)
But really I'm not interested in MORE and MORE and MORE dull DLC , so far the only DLC I've thoroughly enjoyed is the metallica songs... I got 2 of the QOTSA songs and the wolfmother song too but they arent much fun
So WHEN THE HELL IS SOME MORE METAL DLC COMING? @_@ These regular rock songs aren't much fun :(

Oh I know they are gonna have more high quality metal / other fun & agressive DLC eventually I'm just worried if it will be sooner or later? :(
I mean like... when they announce the 2nd wave of DLC it better not be 90% classic rock (AS COVERS) again or I'm gonna be pissed off >:O

Seriously, expand your horizons. Just because you don't know something doesn't mean it's NOT good or not good in a band game. I'm actually glad they didn't throw a bunch of newer rock in here. I mean hell, The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" is 6 years older than I am (came out in 1971, you do the math) and I'm glad it's here because The Who is quintessential rock.
Rock isn't just Linkin Park or Blink 182.
Rock is a huge genre that is about 50 years old, not just a genre from the last 15-20 years.
If they released a Linkin Park DLC list, I'd be happy.
If they released a Queen set list, I'd be happy.
The Who, Led Zep, Hendrix, yes, even Grateful Dead which I know is coming, Type O Negative, Opeth, Anthrax... There's a lot of bands from all venues of rock that could easily find a place in this game.
Hell, they could put the Beatles on here. I'd probably even download it if it was from the Sgt. Pepper's album.

Then you have a pretty lame musical horizon if you cant see past Blink 182 and Linkin Park.. as they are fairly musically boring to begin with, there is nothing complex about their music.

I agree to a point. I don't think they're musically boring any more than AC/DC is - and AC/DC admits they use almost the same 3 chords in every song. I would just hate to see the game get flooded with recent rock DLC simply because the songs are "recent".
A good mix of old and new is the way to go. A Linkin Park pack would be great. But only if they add some older stuff at the same time. RB does a great job appealing to a large amount of people - if they just flood it with newer tracks, it'll turn off a lot of us older fogey..err.. folks who like the game. I do enjoy me some Disturbed, LP, and a whole host of new bands, but I don't think I'd enjoy this game nearly as much if that was ALL there was or if that was all that got offered as DLC.
Hell, I'd even buy a Jimmy Buffett pack.. though he's more on the border of country than rock, and we'd all be too drunk to play if my band were playing Buffett tunes.

I got the Bowie Pack today, but then I'm done until the December 18th songs, which I'll be getting all three of.
But it would be nice to hear--now that we're in December--what Harmonix has planned for January.

A friend of mine works for a company who does some of the audio mixing on the DLC songs. He signed a non-disclosure agreement though, so no matter how much I bug him he won't tell me what songs he's working on.. :( He says they just commissioned another 6 new songs this week that he started working on that haven't been announced yet.

You can't say they're all lame tracks, other people might not feel the same as you.
They aren't my favorite tracks, but I'll probably download them and fall in love with them anyway. I didn't know fifty percent of the songs that came with Rock Band but, now I know some new cool songs.

UGH! #1 problem with a lot of kids and their musical preferences. "If it didn't come out when I was alive, it's no good." Kid, listen to some classic rock or the oldies radio channel for a while. You'll get some good stuff, I promise (and I'm only 26).

December 11th:
Ramones - Rockaway beach
Buzzcocks - Ever fallen in love
The clash - I fought the law
(More covers.... and not good in the 1st place imo lol)
Isn't it only The Buzzcocks that is a cover in that section? Either way - I'm still completely in the dark as to when I'll get a chance to play this in Australia, but The Ramones, The Buzzcocks & The Clash "not good in the 1st place"?
Wow - I'm always amazed at what music people seem to dislike - Sure, I'd prefer to see Ramones - "Pinhead", and The Clash belting out "London Calling" alongside "Ever Fallen In Love" - but "Rockaway Beach" & "I Fought The Law" are classic songs in the history of music.
I don't know - I haven't seen a single song in the DLC that I don't think is incredible.

Plus they're a good way to show bands that there is another market for their music besides stores and Itunes. There was an article about RB a while back saying how they had to show some of the bands the game and kind of "sell" them on the idea. I'm sure once the numbers get back to the artists and they see that this might work for them, you'll see more jump in and hopefully there's more stuff that comes from it.
Check out this link...I'd be willing to say that at least half of the first 100 would be playable (I was going to stop at 20, but you keep going and saying "that would work, that would work, etc..") and we're already getting #17 and #28 on there.

I've enjoyed basically all the DLC so far, and before not having been a big bowie fan, I'm actually thinking about going and getting "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Startdust and the Spider from Mars" album because I really enjoyed "Suffragette City" and "Moonage Daydream".
They aren't making the DLC for me, so never know, they may do a Linkin' Park pack and as much as I can't stand them I'd probably still get it just to see how it plays in the game or if perhaps my tastes have changed. (It could very well be I don't like them cause they got played on the radio every 5 minutes with their two big hits and I just got sick of listening to them)
Basically saying, give the DLC you think you might not like a shot and you may be surprised.
Joker and the Thief is a pleasant surprise (I like the song and it plays really well imo).
Give The Police pack a shot (my personal favorite so far) and Fortunate Son. Juke Box Hero is great, and My Sharona is a great party song.
Hopefully they'll come out with something you want soon but in the mean time shouldn't bash others taste and you should try some of this stuff you might be surprised just how good it is.

Hopefully we'll get a nice announcement around Christmas time. I really want to know what the deal is with these full album downloads. I'm hoping for two things:
one is that we get some awesome song for around Christmas time.
and two that we get some amazing songs announced around Christmas time for the month of January and February.

Also thinking of getting the ziggy stardust album after downloading the david bowie pack.

Don't be a jerk.
Metal can be great, especially since it tends to be really technical, but there's a lot more to music than noodling up and down the fretboard. I'm hoping for some DLC that broadens the spectrum more with post-punk, goth, reggae, blues, etc. If they start leaning too much into metal and hard rock, what's the point? Focus too much on one genre, and you're a very boring individual.

I don't expect Harmonix to focus on simply one genre, and I think that it's foolish to believe that they will. I agree in principle, but the quality of the covers in these games has come a long way since the PS2 GH games. The only covers I bought in DLC were the two in the Bowie pack, plus Bang a Gong, and they're all good enough to play and enjoy without cringing.
Also, I'm not going to buy a song simply because it isn't a cover. I gotta like the song before I'll even consider it.
sickdaddy
12-01-2007, 10:34 AM
I should clarify. :)
I bought fortunate son, which isn't bad. I like to have the variety of songs, but without hearing the vocals on the cover songs, I will be very hesitant to buy any of them. Sometimes the vocals are so far different from the original song, that it pains me to listen to it.
Remember the Nirvana song on GH2? Horrible vocal stylings in my opinion.
So, I would like to hear cover songs before considering buying them.
I don't know why the black sabbath songs would be covers. I understand the logistics, and that it may not have been possible to get the masters, etc., and that's out of the hands of the developers, but it's disappointing not to look forward to the original recordings of this classic band.
With the original recordings, I know what song I am getting, so I don't have to question whether or not I will purchase the songs I enjoy. That isn't the case with cover songs, because I do not know what I am getting for sure.

Frankly, i want more old stuff lol(I'm 14).

how about that next big super announcement Harmonix is supposed to be making soon?
I'm missing something. What is this all about? And when is this announcement supposed to happen?

Well, I don't know what you want. The current DLC that is out now and will be out by the 18th is pretty diverse. I mean, what is it that's missing? We've metal, modern/alt rock, glam, 80's pop rock, Southern rock, punk. I meant, what is it that you aren't seeing?
Goth is the glaring omission, particularly when you consider that gothic attitude and goth clothing make up 1/4 of the custom character options.

Good news is:
Paranoid was an excellent cover compared to other covers, including but not limited to GHIII's paranoid cover.
If the same guys that made the Paranoid cover made the Sabbath pack then they have my money.

Check out this link...I'd be willing to say that at least half of the first 100 would be playable (I was going to stop at 20, but you keep going and saying "that would work, that would work, etc..") and we're already getting #17 and #28 on there.
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/5938174/the_rs_500_greatest_albums_of_all_time
The stuff on the 11th and 18th is great, I just wish I could get the whole Bends and Blue albums for DLC. Oh, and Purple Rain.
Oh, forget about it - I mean, if you're going to look at absolute classic music from the "Rolling Stone" list, there's no doubt that there would be some incredible content all around - forgetting about the wish list of bands like Led Zeppelin or even The Beatles, my dream list in this would have to be stuff like "Exile On Main Street", "Let It Bleed" & "Sticky Fingers" from The Rolling Stones, "Are You Experienced?" by Hendrix, "Born to Run" by Springsteen, "Hotel California" from The Eagles (the lead track has been played to death for so long that a lot of people forget how brilliant the album itself is), The Allman Brothers "At Fillmore East", "After The Gold Rush" by Neil Young - I mean, that's a handful from the first 100 albums.
But Deathstick - you're 100% spot on, not only does it present a new option for bands both established & also newcomers to showcase their catalogue in a fun, interactive format that reduces the risk of piracy in general, but it also introduces a new wave of music to the everyday gamer as well - I don't know how many people have flooded these boards with bands they've gotten into since playing the "GH" series and "Rock Band".
I consider myself to be fairly well versed in Rock history, but picking up on bands like The Acro-Brats in the bonus tracks through these games continue to broaden my horizons as a fan - I love it all!

I will say that the Tom Sawyer cover really sucks. I don't know why they even attempted that...there's NO WAY anyone can do that song except Geddy Lee. The guy singing it just sounds so awful...makes me laugh whenever I have to play it. He sucks the soul completely out of that song...
Geddy Lee's voice is naturally that high. The guy who's singing the cover sounds like he was kicked in the nuts. :)

UGH! #1 problem with a lot of kids and their musical preferences. "If it didn't come out when I was alive, it's no good." Kid, listen to some classic rock or the oldies radio channel for a while. You'll get some good stuff, I promise (and I'm only 26).
Hell im 17 and i listen to ray charles and muddy waters whats that the 50's john lee hooker
but i just bought the new foo fighters CD and i think its amazing. hows that for musical horizon.
Yea i can't wait till the punk pack comes out love those songs hopefully they will have a second punk pack (Maby some old green day and Dead kennedys)
And i can't wait till they anounce WHo's Next favorite album next to Sticky fingers by the stones

I think they need to release at least one ridiculous cheesy song per month.
Shot Through The Heart, I'm looking at you.
"shot through the heart" or "you give love a bad name"? too entirely different bon jovi songs..
i will i assume you meant "you give love a bad name".. which just happens to be playing on my itunes due to my girl blowing me off tonight.. grrrrr and i was jsut thinking that needs to be in rock band.
Chorus to shot through the heart =
Shot through the heart as I lay there alone
In the dark through the heart
It's all part of this game that we call love
Chorus to you give love a bad name =
Shot through the heart
And you're to blame
You give love a bad name
I play my part and you play your game
You give love a bad name
You give love a bad name
and cheesey my butt... hair metal = greatest genre ever.. .

Hah, you're right. Yes, I did mean "You Give Love A Bad Name", and that's actually what I originally wrote down, but I couldn't remember which was the name of the song and which wasn't hehe.
Although that being said? I would also go for Shot Through The Heart now that you've jogged my memory. :p
Edit: It's still cheesy, like glam, but this game could do with more hair metal and more glam.

if making girls horny is cheesey... then ok..
go ahead try it.. through on some classic hair metal tunes at your next party.. we figured that out about 5 years back.. we thought we were the only one who listened to hair metal religiously.. threw it on at a party.. every one got laid. i thought that effect wore of in the early 90s. i was very wrong. 20 yr old girls go goo goo gah gah for some warrant and poison.
then again when you live in a place known throw out the greater area as "that metal animal house" that must be expected... man that place was awesome.. hair metal blasting till 7am kegs flowing by the gallon full bar and leather couches in the back yard and 3rd gen camaros in the drive way.. our own little slice of jersey circa 1986 right here in boston..
it will be missed.. :(

Harmonix, if you are listening: PLEASE add some goth rock to DLC! I can't understand why there is a huge selection of goth clothing at the shop and the option to pick the 'goth' style for each character in the game but there isn't a single goth song in the playlist. I mean, there isn't even any "faux goth" in it! I'd love me some Joy Division, Bauhaus, or Sisters of Mercy...hell, I'll even settle for The Cure's poppier side.

This band needs more good ol' totally awesome, some call it cheesy, rock. We want the best, give us the best - the best damn band in the land - KISS! A KISS DLC would not only fit in with Kiss trying to sell us one of everything on the planet that's KISS branded, they could put some awesome songs in there... Rock N Roll All Nite (I know its in GH3 - but singing it's so much better than just the guitar)... Dr. Love.. Shout It Out Loud... and most of all - God Gave Rock 'n Roll To You!
I'm praying that they're in the next batch to roll out... but any good, solid, quality rock is good by me. As much as I'm a Beastie Boys fan... they really are more hip-hop and rap, and they really don't belong in Rock Band, in my opinion... you should have to SING the song, not yell into the mic, to have the song really qualify...
Any thoughts?

Oh Frick if Joy Division is in this game...I'll literally pee in my pants....Stephen Morris although not a very prolific drummer(not even sure if he knows how to tune drums) played some intense and hypnotic tom patterns during JD days.

Rap or no, Sabotage is pure rock. There's nothing remotely hip-hop about it.
Remember that the Beasties come from an era when the primary inspiration for rap was rock music. How else do you end up with Run-DMC doing Walk this Way or that abomination that Puffy perpetrated against Kashmir?

except for that part where they rap the whole song.... rock rap is a genre..
as for the rest.. its all rock rap. often the worst genre ever. but some gems do exists.
and yes people rock and rap can be in the same song. and it can NOT suck. unless it's limp bizkit. lol.
speaking of which.. this game needs some good ole fashion corny limp bizkit rock rap hardcore crap,.
i wouldnt mind rockin out to all for the nookie.. or what ever the hell its called.

When I get this game I want to get the QOTSA pack, Buddy Holly, wolfmother, and probably the Metallica pack. I'd like to see some System of a Down (no matter how hard it is :P), Beatles, Aerosmith, GnR, Danzig, Linkin Park, Disturbed, old Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins and a lot more.

No. The cover was good. At least they didn't get the Matthew Sweet cover singer.
yeah what we need to get thorugh our heads is that bands today are bands from the past its just found new forms of rock theres no ''better type of rock'' its just diffrent types of rock and by the way im 13 and i prefer black sabbath metalica led zepplen deepurple etc to most of the newer stuff

Hehe. It's amazing - nobody in Joy Division knew how to play an instrument (at least when they first started out), but their songs were just so well-crafted it made them seem like they were far more "technically skilled" than they actually were. Peter Hook's 'lead bass' style gets me every time. Unfortunately, I'd imagine the only song they would ever release for RB is "Love Will Tear Us Apart", but I'm holding out for "Transmission", "Digital", and "Ice Age", as well. Even some early New Order would be good!

I would love some blues but really the only blues that would work would be cream or maybe a few BB King songs but other then that the whole song would be dry for everything but vocals and guitar. classic blues would be really difficult to fit into RB. but that aside i think that there should be Johnny B Goode by either Chuck berry himself or The Grateful Dead. and yes im 18 years old and i listen to the Grateful Dead and other old stuff. I think some Rage Against the Machine would be cool to play in RB since theyre obviously devoid in that category.
Some SRV would be amazing, since he in my opinion is the only person to give any credence to a hendrix song besides the master himself. I hope that HMX is going to release the info on the Dead songs soon cuz i really cant wait, i mean theres gonna be 18 of em what more could i ask.

I am also a huge SRV fan. I own about 50 of his live shows. I think his version of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) is better than Jimi's.
If they put SRV in the game, it needs to be a master recording. The version of "Pride and Joy" on GH3 was terrible. I played it once and was so annoyed by the terrible cover that I never played it again.

This thread has gotten massively off topic... the last few pages are nothing but ultimate setlist wishlist type discussion and have nothing to do with the original topic.
The short of it... we have a DLC schedule through the end of the month... at which time we may learn new information pertaining to the 2008 strategy. There's album level DLC which may be revealed... there's singles and bundles which may be revealed. Once things are ready and finalized, they will be announced via official channels.
