I'm trying to get RB2 to work for my family here.

Currently we have the RB2 special edition so theres no issues.

I bought a 2nd guitar to play as bass with, it's an i-con RB-RB2-GH compatible guitar. The night before I tried it and it worked just fine.

After a bunch of stumbling around we found out all the positions worked fine individually but we can't seem to get 4 people at once.

Whenever the 4th person tries to join in theres something said about only allowing 4 controllers. Upon further inspection we noticed that there always seems to be 1 band positions under 2 players. For example the microphone would be player 2 AND 3.

We can't seem to fix this, any help?

Press start on the extra wii remote that's on, or unplug the USB dongle of whatever extra instrument is not currently in use.

Wish it was that simply but to elaborate the instruments go like this.

Drums (both only ever one player/ controller)
Guitar

Microphone (Sometimes ends up as 2 players)
Generic RB/GH guitar (sometimes ends up as 2 players)

The Generic RB/GH guitar requires a wiimote plugged into the back of it much like other guitars.

So the generic guitar is third party? You'd think that Harmonix would have already solved that by making support for the Guitar Hero guitars. Rock Band 2 should recognize the second remote as being attached to the guitar.

Anyone have any ideas?

The generic RB/GH guitar does NOT require a controller in it to work for RB2, and in fact, that is likely what is causing the problem.

Remove it, and you should be ok.

Otherwise, put it in full GH mode and unplug it's dongle, and that should solve the issue as well.

not all 3rd party peripherals are the same - I have the same issue as ponestar - can't get two guitars, mic, and drums all working at the same time. Each peripheral works on its own, but the mic requires a wiimote active to control it. The mic itself is also seen as a peripheral, so it seems to count as two. The 3rd party guitar (Icon Guitar Evolution, in my case), needs a wiimote in the body cavity. As soon as I activate the fourth peripheral, RB tells me that it supports a maximum of 4 peripherals, and to press + on the peripheral I want to deactivate.

Ponestar, did you ever resolve this? If so, how?

I'm having exactly the same issue as DaveGreen123. Any help would be great!

Bront20 was correct - the 3rd party guitar (Icon Guitar Evolution, in my case), does not require the wii remote to be installed in it (even though it has a cavity and connector for it). I think that is only if you're using it for Guitar Hero.

I removed the Wiimote, and installed 4 AA batteries, and now it's working like a charm. It syncs up correctly (the LEDs on the dongle wouldn't indicate proper sync previously, even though the guitar was working), and I can get two guitars, drums, and mic all going at the same time.
