Sorry if this has already been answered but I was wondering whether any of you knew whether the new Rockband controllers could be used for GH3 or 2. This would be very handy because then I would only have to get two new controllers at the end of the year rather than three!

I know that GH guitars from I II and III will be able to be used in Rockband, but there has yet to be anything said about RockBand guitars being able to be used in GH III. It is most definately a possibility though.

They said that if Activision requested, then Harmonix could make them work in GHIII. So basically they are leaving it up to Activision. I haven't heard anything besides that.

Actually, its more up to Activision making their game support the RB guitars, not letting Harmonix make them work.

I'm pretty sure I read in an interview that they're gonna try to make them compatible with GH 1 and 2 at least. Who knows what the final word will be though

For Rock Band using GH controllers:
I was under the impression that only the GH2 guitars for the xbox (USB) would be compatible with whatever console that uses USB. That would make it compatible with PS3 then right?

With the new site launch, if you read what is under the Gameplay, it mentions any third controller supported by Rock Band's open source software. This might make it possible for new GH3 controllers, if they are electronically different, to work in RB if HMX gets their hands on it before release.

For GH3 using Rock Band controllers:
You have to assume that only xbox and PS3 can use these because they should be USB only. PS2's should be out of the picture here because of this. I guess it could be possible for HMX to make their controller look like an xbox controller in GH3 on xbox. But does HMX know how this controller should act on a PS3 yet?
And as mentioned above, why would Red Octane allow this to happen?

Just my $.02

All of this USB working on everything is wrong, just so you know.

Microsoft needs special chips in their controllers for them to work, and Sony needs special drivers for their controllers to work as well.

Ok, I knew I wasn't making this up:

"Certainly, if Activision wishes to support the Rock Band guitar controller in Guitar Hero, we'd be happy to work with them to make it easy for them to do so."

That's what I was trying to get across.
Cross platform support could be a bear to achieve. Electronically with chips could make it selectable, like an A/B switch, but why would HMX do this?

Would you think it's possible for HMX to make their guitars appear to GH3 as a GH2 controller on for the same platform? If this could happen, they might get more sales for the people on the fence about which game to buy. If the guitars could be used on GH3, some might buy RB with guitars and just the GH3 game.

I don't think any work has to be done for the guitar itself, just that they would work with Activision to help them if they wish to allow the controller.

this question might decide if i even buy GH3 or not...theres no way im buying 4 guitars and RB is going to be the better game.

Ideal Situation: RB bundle comes with 1 guitar and is compatible with GH3. GH3 guitar compatible with RB.

This way you get 2 guitars, both in bundles and probably for the cheapest price. The RB guitar has the extra 5 frets, but I don't think they're used when playing Bass (or are they?). This would also mean that when playing multiplayer in the same room the Bassist would have a different guitar to the lead guitarist, which is just kinda cool.

I think this is the only circumstance that would make me buy GH3.

...Sadly I see myself owning 6 guitars when every game is out for the 360.

I haven't bought GHII for the 360 yet and the reason is because of wireless. DLC isn't the best and The Trooper is sweet. But I would really need to find a sweet deal to get GHII and 2 guitars. 150 right now is too much with RB and GH3 coming around the corner.

Will we know if it's compatable or not before the release? cause that will definetly hurt the sales of gh3
