View Full Version : Connecting to my Xbox 360 with WinSCP?

I've been having a bit of a problem, and after looking around, I haven't found many answers to help. So I figure it can't hurt to ask on a video game-based forum.

I have about a thousand or so songs that I want to transfer to my 360, and the only way it seems to do that is to burn them all to CDs (11 or so in total; I don't have any RWs), and then rip them on to my Xbox.

I brought this up to my friend who is pretty knowledgeable with how electronics work, and he brought up how WinSCP could connect to my Xbox 360 and transfer the music to it directly, thus saving me a lot of time-- and CDs.

So I downloaded the program, and so far, I can't seem to connect it to my Xbox. I've been using my Xbox's IP as the Host Name, "admin" as the User Name, and "myxbox" as the password, as my previously-mentioned friend explained to do, but I keep getting a "Connection Timed Out" message.

If any of you are knowledgeable in this and could help me out, it would be very appreciated.

[EDIT: My Xbox 360, Computer, and about three other of my family's computers are all connected to the same wireless router (although, my Xbox and Computer are directly connected to the router.) My internet is provided my Comcast.]

er, I don't think this is legal, but you can ask on the afterdawn forums.

They know some stuffs.

What's wrong with just using a USB flash drive?

Why wouldn't it be legal? It's my Xbox, my internet connection, and an otherwise legal program.

You're not able to transfer any sort of content (via CD, DVD, or USB) to an HDD, from what I've heard, unless it's on a Music CD.

Of course, that could be wrong, since I haven't tried myself. I do know that I couldn't transfer anything from my Creative Zen (a MP3 player that I connected via USB), although I could stream my music from it.

well, you could have the files and release them over torrent networks or whatever.

I'm not saying that you would, but people usually do that.

i dont see how you are going to get that to happen. there isnt an FTP server running on a 360 and the SCP protocol requires a *nix shell on the server side anyway.

it wouldnt be illegal because there is no way to do it.
however, if you were to MOD your 360 so you could do it, then you are getting into grey areas of legalities... besides, modded xboxes tend to find themselves getting banned from XBL...

Alright, well, I'll re-ask my friend about it when I see him at school tomorrow. He's just pretty hard to understand, so I wanted to see if anybody had a solution here, first.

If not, then I wouldn't mind burning all 11 CDs. It'll be a bit of a pain, but it's manageable.
